I ended up with one of the craftsman units which has been good for my uses but lacks in torque sometimes. If I was to do it over again I would get the ingersol rand. Read some of the reviews on Amazon and you will be sold also:

I just bought the ingersoll ran 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" cordless impacts. AMAZING! Can't wait to put them to more use.

After breaking 2 of my 3 batteries for my 1/2" Mac cordless impact, and seeing new ones are $150 each I've been looking at new impacts too. I have a 3/8 IR with Ni Cad batteries and those batteries have been worthless since shortly after I bought it. Hopefully the Li Ion are better, but the whole impact sure isn't cheap. I've been trying to decide on one that would share batteries with a cordless drill. I have the matching drill for my Mac impact so it was nice that they shared the same batteries, but now that I'm down to 1 it's not so fun.

I love my IR W7150 1/2" cordless impact, you can get them for around $385 if you shop around.

I have a Makita 1/2" 18v lithium ion that I have had for 4 years that I retired to home duty and bought the new matco one when it came out for work. it was not cheap but has not let me down in the year and a half I have owned it. both are strong guns but the matco one is an animal.

I have a dewalt 18v as well and to be honest it's not nearly as strong as the ingersoll rand. The dewalt barely wanted to take lugs out. Chris,

I use my Milwaukee 1/4 impact with 3/8 adapter, its great for everything that doesn't need lots of torque, for breaking the big stuff I still use my pneumatic 1/2 impact with 600lbft. ive been meaning to go for the shebang and buy the Milwaukee 1/2 18v lith ion kit for when I go to pick n pull or on my offroading trips

I have a Milwaukee 18V 1/2 inch impact that i really like. Got it for 100 bucks with 2 batteries and charger new. Seems it was a misprint by Home Depot. It was also their last or i would have bought many and resold.
I have a rigid 18V cordless kit and just bought the Milwaukee 18V 6 piece cordless kit. I bought the Milwaukee cause the Rigid i find is not as durable and the batteries dont hold up as well in the cold weather as compared to the Milwaukee.
Have used both extensively and that has been my finding. The Rigid is still good though. I just use it in the garage.

Another Milwaukee user. I went for a little overkill and have both the 1/2 and 3/8 (18V) impacts. I like them both and use them often. I also have the smaller Milwaukee 1/4 inch 12V smaller impact. It's great for tighter spaces when you don't need the torque of the larger units.

I use the craftsman 1/2 drive 19.2 volt. Works good, but battery life is kind of short so I keep a spare battery charged.

I have a Milwaukee 18v combo kit 3/8 impact. And the impact is the biggest piece of crap I have ever had. I use this tool everyday and like some of you stated the batteries do last a while. I bought mine back in March of last year and I just sent it off for the second time to be repaired. The trigger went out the first time. This time the motor gave out. So now I am going with the IR W 7150. I have read a lot of reviews and that looks to be the best one on the market.
