Default Any solutions for lifts in home garages?

I'm contemplating a lift for my home garage - a one-holer with a short ceiling . I've seen some low lift types sold by Harbor Freight (about $1200) and others.

What is the best deal here?

If it was me, I'd go for a low profile two post design with the swingout arms.

I've got this lift:

http://www.geminilift.com/gp9F.htm

It's a "low overhead", but it's still just over 9 feet tall. My ceiling is only 11' in my shop where the posts are... normal lifts are 12' tall. Probably wouldn't fit in a single car garage though... it's pretty wide also.

I bought mine used from Nitro Dave but I would "think" they'd be in the $2300-$2500 range. I had mine professionally installed (and delivered) for $300. To me it was well worth it - he did all the safety adjustments, leveled the lift, and had it up and running in about an hour and a half. Would have taken me a whole weekend.

I'd go with these guys recommendations if storing a car under it. If you're just using it to work on your car, then a Kwiklift is an option.

I have an hydralift... but it cost me more then 1000$ to have it delivered/installed...

BTW Its 14' tall so not for the typical low roof garage unfortunately

I'm in Japan on business. I've been here for the last 3 weeks.

These "lifts" are used frequently in this country. Apparently, they work well and save space.

The technology in Japan is much more advanced then in America. We are in the stone age and I doubt if we will ever catch up.

Well what about the sisser lifts from Harbor freight?

I'm confused about the Kwicklift. It seems very low to me. Also, how does the car get raised? Do you raise it with a floor jack? Does it have a motor; does it run on compressed air?

I use the Kwiklift also. It allow you to work under the car and under the hood at the same time. It is high enough to go under the rails on a creeper and I am a big guy.
Click on the link in sig to see a pic of a car on the lift. You can get it raw and paint it yourself for $900.00. I would get the bridge also.

So the Kwicklift is the way to go??

How does it lift the car; is it an electric motor or a hydrolic thing?
