Default Thank God for Air Tools

Just want to post a thread honoring the inventor of Air tools whoever he may be. If it wernt for him Id be lost. It makes life so much easier when working on cars, and I think that deserves a salute.

Thumbs up

Amen to that!

Don't tell anyone, this is between you and me, but I used a 1/2" impact wrench to remove my stock pulley. It instantly broke free. Also, I installed the new bolt with the same wrench, amazingly easy, but don't try this at home.

Ive used impact on just about everything, the air ratchet can come in handy too. But have you ever tried to take out A-Arm bushings? Lets say 3 consecutive days of constant air hammering on those things to get them out...not fun ...couldnt even imagine what you would do with out an air hammer .

It was a life-saver removing the stock catalytic converter bolts too, just couldn't budge those suckers by hand.

Definitely right guys, I don't know where I'd be without my impact wrench sometimes. I know it wouldn't be too fun...

That's just it too, it's a lot more "fun" working on cars when you got the right tools. There's nothing fun about futilely struggling with a fastener when it's a simple job with an air tool.

Hey... back when I was your age... we didn't have air tools... we were lucky to have rachet wrenches that racheted in both directions... Hell, what am I talking about... that's all I've got...

Thanks for making me feel young, but you better be well over 49 to say that.

I don't think ratchets were even invented when I was born.

I'd use a hydraulic press to get the A-arm bushings out.

Pent up frustration and sarcasm for not being able to afford a lovely compliment of air tools...

Amen to the air tools. It made cleaning the headbolt holes SOOOO much easier using the air ratchet. I had to have done each hole about 10 times before they were clean. If I had to do that by hand... I would have arms like AHNOLD

Well, back when I was your age , I was lucky to have a couple crescent wrenches and some rusty screwdrivers. Don't feel bad. It wasn't until almost 30 years later was I able to afford some good tools.

I'm sure you'll get all the tools you ever wanted.

Anyway, nice with ya!

No Tengo un press hydrauic....

But, I think the most usefull is probably impact....but most powerfull is the air hammer . Listen to What ive done with an air hammer:

-While taking the crank pully off when putting in the cam (engine out of car) and putting the asp underdrive pulley on, we decided to put the pulley puller on the suface where the belt is instead of the convient tabs that gm puts on the underdrive pulleys...Why, Im not sure, but we did. The puller was a little small for the pully so we decided to air chisel off the groves in the pulley so the puller would get a better grip. Worked like magic...

Anybody else have fun air hammer stories???

It's REALLY LONG BOLTS where air tools really shines. Instead of turning on that bastard for 5 minutes, zip the bitch right off with an air gun

******* excellent
