Does this seem like a good price, I haven't priced craftsman tools in a while. I basically done with my cheap socket set and was looking for something alittle nicer, does this seem like enough tools?

Very True. Basically last week I was trying to change my battery and one of my cheap china ratchets just freaking snapped in the middle of the process. ...so I'm done with the those cheap sets. I mainly do the basic stuff...general maintenance, brakes, replacing those headlight/window motors that keep breaking , etc…so I think this will be fine. I used to work in a pretty fancy bike shop back in my high school years and we always had Craftsman tools which were great and never broke once.

BTW, what is better as far as 6-pt vs 12pt. From what I remember 6pt are better because they make more contact with the nut, is this correct.

Great set. The bigger the set you buy the more $ you'll save. That one covers most the basics. I prefer 6 point myself.

Thats the set I have, and it had enough tools in it for me to rebuild most of my 280zx motor, save for a few specialty items that you'll always run across. Its a great set and I've only broken one socket out of it, and thats cuz my ASE certified friend and I encountered a real stubborn bolt and it got the better of us....needless to say Sears(well, actually the base exchange) replaced it free of charge. Great tool set for the price imo.

I bought the same set....works great and handles mostly all of the jobs I need it for.....You'll find yourself buying some more cute stuff along the way to make the job easy, but all in all I am 100% satisfied with the purchase.

And here is a $5 coupon for being such a great member

Thanks for the coupon, although I already had it printed out from another site. Sears also has 10% early bird on saturday as well 10% off for Craftsman club...so it will be quite a good deal. Looks like im going to buy it, thanks for all the help.

People can talk bad about craftsman all they want....... BUT I don't plan on buying any other sockets, wrenches OR RATCHETS. I'll go to MAC for my specialty stuff though.

I think you can get a Stanley set with the same amount of tools for about $60 at Walmart. Both are inexpensive sets that will work fine.

I carry a Stanley set like the Sears thing you show above in all three of my cars...This plus, some jumper cables, plyers, duct tape, wire, a cell phone and a few other things will nearly always get you home in a jam...

I'm not partial to Craftsmutt tools because they are not pretty like the polished Asian "crap" tools (Stanley) that I own. Most here on the Board rake me over the coals for this, view however...

I can't say anything as far as the stanley sockets since I've never used them, but the wrenches are garbage IMO. I bought a set of them at walmart last summer and they are now all torn up with pretty easy use. This is why I am going to buy this Craftsman set.

U say stanley is cheap made..... i agree....... BUT Stanley and MAC are pretty much the same thing...... put a stanley ratchet up to a MAC and I haven't been able to tell a difference, besides the price. The actions of both work hand in hand pretty much. But I will SWEAR by my Craftsman Professional Ratchets. I'll take them over a mac, snap-on or cornwell.

that craftsman set isn't bad... but if you really wan tools, they ahve a 546 pc. set that has about everything, other than a tq wrench that you could need that's on special right now for $999. My fiance bought them for me this christmas... I ahd to go get them, she couldn't pick up the box that they come in, ( it's a heavy sucker! ) and for the cash, it's worth it. If your budget won't allow for that.. then go for teh set that you posted the link to, that's a good place to start. But, again, I'd recommend the biggest set that you can float... the price per pc. does drop, and when was the last time you heard someone complain about having too many tools....

Firebird4life:
I'm surpirsed your Stanley wrenches are torn up???? Any breakage/worn teeth or what? I've had mine for 8 or more years and they are like new. I've used them a bunch too.

I own a few tools of the premier brands like Snap-N-Half, Mac and some older Craftsmutt stuff. Most of my tools are Chinese in origin like, Stanley, Popular Mechanics, Gear Wrench

I can honestly say that none of the wrenches, sockets and ratchets I own have busted, however.

...So maybe I own a lot of Chinese junk that will eventually break when I stress them out a tad????

What do you think caused this; cheap steel, bad hardnening, poor design, Chinese labor issues - all of the above???

Why don't you return them; they have a limited warranty that applies to the holder in due course?
