Default pinion depth tool

im looking for a good source for the tool(im not sure what its called obviously) that sits in the machined area of the rear ends where the carrier bearings go. it allows the correct measurement of the pinion depth form the axel center line. thanks.

Well a few tools I used in school was a shim pack tool to get a idea of what kind of shims to use for the two bearing at the end of the case . A dial indicator to set backlash and some white grease to check gear contact.

I beleive the name of the tools are (i) a dial guage and a (ii) magnetic base with an arm that positions the guage where you need it.

Harbor Freight (www.harborfreight.com) sells these for less than $30.

i would check out the link that fireball posted. I have their carrier bearing puller (also works on most pinion bearings) and it's a great time/bearing/money saver.

got a website for T&D mzoomora? thanks guys ill do some looking. i may just have to make some calls to these places, im sure they have sources. i figured if the tool didnt cost a lot id do it that way instead of trial and error or going off the main cap pads, which isnt right since the bearing lands are line bored with the caps on. that puts the centerline of the axles/ carrier not on the split of the caps to housing. at least thats what ive been told. thanks again.

The universal version(for most rears) is the expensive one. Like $500+ The one that Jegs & Summit sell that are model specific I haven't tried, but look like a good option.
