I bought a kobalt brand from lowes and havent had a problem yet.it leaks a little oil sometimes, but I just put more in regularly and no problems. Its a 3 ton jack, lifts my truck up with no problem. was about 150$ total, included two jack stands, the floor jack.

I never knew there was a problem with jacks. I've always used the one my dad has had since before I was born (18 now). It's this orange jack that always works perfectly and never leaks.

Anyone have bad luck with Sears bottle jacks? I have one, maybe a 2.5 ton, it only goes halfway up and I have only used it prob 10 times, so much for that 90 day return option.......

If you make a really big stink, ask for the manager, then threaten to talk to the regional manager about it, you may get a replacement for free.
You know it's funny. I was just talking about this with a old timer that comes in the shop. He has a floor jack that he's is still using that is over 25 yrs old!! NOT MADE IN CHINA!! It sucks that everything has to be made so cheap now a days!!

Don't sweat it guys... when it works it's a good jack lol

I just buy new ones and return the bad ones in the new box after a few days and get my money back.... They've had the same jack for like 3 years now so it passes just fine.

Yeah they are unreliable though.

I am willing to go with the sketchy tool, but I hate doing it with a floorjack...

and no way woudl they ever accept my jack as a return. Do a couple tranny swaps and see how clean and neat your jack looks.

My dad has an old green sears floorjack, (circa mid 70's) and it still works perfect today, it's built like a tank, wiht a 1 1/2 ton capacity (about the same size as most 3 tons jacks today)

Oh I have.... I just swap out the jack pad, handle, front roller, etc... Wipe it down, etc... I don't like em, but until I feel I've got my money's worth I'm gonna do this about 2 more times, lol.

I guess then I'll buck up for a nice ($$$) jack.

I have 2 aluminum sears jacks. They are about 3 years old (or when they first came out) and never/ever had a problem with them. I'm sure they get used more than 99.9% of the people here use there's.I've left cars on them with no stands for day's.Probly use them 4-5 days a week.
Of course now they will probly fail.

i just got a craftsman jack last year wish this was posted then lol, they are worthless. although the old sears one my dad has im guessing 15-20 yrs old still works wells just leaks alil oil over along period of time the brand new one cant even hold its own weight up for a few minutes no less a car on it or something. this is the steel version im talking about too so its not just the aluminum ones. and as always "made in china"- you can keep it china.

My harbor freight aluminum jack is >4 years old and still kicking butt. It has been hauled to a lot of events, and is dinged up, but lifts the car to the end of it's lift and I have never added fluid to it.

I need to get a nice jack for home.

I bought a Hein-Werner 2 ton last month works perfect and no leaks. It is made here in the U.S.A. . Got it from one of the tool truck guys that stop at work for $350.oo could of got it on line for less here : http://www.toolking.com/productinfo....roductid=14633 but I dont think they will let me pay $20 a week for it . It is exactly like the one at work that is 25 years old and still works perfect. Stay away from the trash from china , it may cost less but in the long run you will pay more.
