I am going to be doing a header install this weekend and the header bolts need to be torqued to 18 ft/lb. Well I don’t own a torque wrench and the only ones that I can seem to find out there to rent only go down to 25 ft/lb. However the guy at the last AutoZone I talked to said they sell a torque wrench that is in in/lb instead of ft/lb for like $40. If I go with this wrench is the conversion as easy as it sounds? Does 1 ft/lb = 12 in/lb? So I would have to torque the header bolts down to 216 in/lb? Just though I would make sure before I buy it and damage my block or blow a gasket.
Thanks,
Alex

personally I have NEVER torqued down header bolts. Just tighten them down with a 3/8" ratchet and use anti seize on the bolts. If your still set on torqueing them down then get you the correct torqe wrench. I have 3 of them. 2 3/8" wrenches, one that measure in/lbs and one 0-25 ft/lbs. The other one is a stnadard 1/2" drive 25-150 ft/lbs.

in pound torque wrench is in valuable, you will need it for the intake mainfold, if you do it. It is a great purchase, however I would not think a 40.00 one is a good investment, my sk one was around 125.00.

I know I am not excited about buying a cheap torque wrench, but I really need one to do my headers I just don't have the cash to drop on a couple hundred dollar wrench. It is looking like I am going to be going with whatever I can find at AutoZone in a 3/8in drive that will go below 20 ft/lb
