i grinded through my TB when porting it....how do i fix this?
not sure if this is the right place to post this, but i grinded through my throttle body while i was porting it tonight. it isn't a big hole, and am pretty sure it can be filled and and reworked but idk what to fill itin with.
should i just weld the hole shut and grind the access back down? whats your suggestions?

im pretty sure you caqn do that...but im pretty sure its made of aluminium so it might be alittle harder than you think.
Also if all else fails, get some badass industrial JB Quik Weld which comes in two toothpaste looking packages i think they're blue and red but im not 100%sure, jut get the one that is supposed to bond well with aluminum and then you can work it down alittle and smooth it out.u can probably get it at any hardware, auto parts store.. just my .02 hope this helps...

Yah, JB Weld / Epoxy is no big deal on a TB. Just make sure the surface is clean clean clean, scuff it with some rough sandpaper so it has some bite, and go for it.
My TB was epoxied at the IAC slot to smooth it out, and then the epoxy was blended with a sanding roll. Works great.

Here's how I fixed one that did that. Lay some vinyl electrical tape on the inside of the TB where the hole is. Rough up the outside of the TB around where the hole is and lay down a thin layer of JB Weld on the outside of the TB covering the hole. When it dries, peel off the tape on the inside and you will have a nice smooth surface where the hole was and won't need and smoothing. The tape won't stick to the JB Weld.

i bought some stuff called Magnum Steel at the parts store today. it comes in a vauum sealed cylinder and you mix it together like clay. its suppose to bond to aluminim and itll dry in 5 mintues time. ive never heard of this stuff so hopefully itll get'r done.

I used some aluminum epoxy putty from home depot. Put it on the outside and blended with the rest of the casting. It even dried to match the color and texture of the TB.

Surprised no one said this but yeah epoxy is a good idea but think of what happens if it comes lose and goes into your motor you can get a new tb for cheap. Alot cheaper than a new motor. My advice is to buy a new tb.

I understand the concerns about the epoxy.
Most people stop once they start to break thru. I used the epoxy putty on the outside of the TB. I had about a 1/8 hole, the epoxy filled the natural casting where it broke thru. The amount of epoxy I used was way bigger than the 1/8 hole. There is no way that it can be sucked into the motor.
FWIW: I tried filling the idle air cavity like everyone does and lost 1 MPH in the quatermile. I wasn't comfortable with the epoxy on the inside of the TB so I ground the epoxy back out and regained the mph.

When I broke through on one I just had it TIGed up and I redid it but depending on were its at and how thin it is around the hole. All of the ones I broke through on were mostly AC Delco castings right under the throttle shaft on the passenger side were the casting dips in.
