Default RotoZip - good tool?

I've got various wood and occasional metal cutting projects to do around the house and car.

I'm considering the $150 package they've got at Lowes/Home Depot for this tool; jigsaw attachment, cut-off attachment, circle cutter, straight edge tool, various bits.

Good tool or gadgett? What's your experience. I've seen one or two posts saying it was used for porting.

Thanks!

I have just the basic RZ tool and it works good on everything I've used it on. I've never used it to cut metal though. Only wood, masonary board, sheetrock and plastic. Cutting thicker wood, the bits don't last real long before going dull.

It has its uses (like cutting blind large holes in
wood walls where you couldn't get a saber saw
past the studs). If you want to use it like a die
grinder, get the die grinder. It's a little awkward
and wants to wander off the line if you don't
keep a steady hand, the bits like to walk. I got
a much cheaper B&D one without so many
accessories.

I think in most cases there's a better tool for
the job but there a few where it's ideal.

I have one. Works great for cutting drywall. I also have the pencil attachment for it to use with dremel bits. That works pretty good for porting as well. Overall, I like it pretty well.

So the flex shaft extension attachment allows use of the Dremel brand bits?

What about router bits? Are you stuck with RotoZip choices only, or can you use other brand router bits? Looks like RotoZip only has about 3 choices for bits.

I think I'm going to pick up the Home Depot kit because I found out it comes with a circle cutter, while the Lowe's kit comes with the grout removal attachment.

Both kits come with the right angle cut-off, 3 wheels, and several types of bits.

Yep, lets you use any 1/8" bit. You can pick up a bunch of them in a kit at Harbor Freight for a lot less than you find the dremel stuff.
I've never looked at the router bits. I have a craftsman router so I've never had a need. Sorry
I have the circle cutter as well. Can't say that I've used it, but it's in the kit I have.
