Default What kind of drill bits is everybody using?

I recently rounded off some of my combination wood/metal bits doing some drilling so I figured I'd get some that could take the abuse. What kind of bits do I need to get that will last doing a lot of metal drilling?

Get some quality HSS bits for general use. MOST bits (even HF ones) will cut if you use the proper drill speed and pressure (and cutting fluid, if appropriate). Save the Cobalts for tough metals. They are expensive and are quite brittle. They are not necessary for most jobs - if you use proper drilling technique.

UNIBITs.... i bought one last week for the first time.

i dont know why i waited so long.. they're GREAT. once it cuts to the first step, you can just keep cutting each step out like butter... ive needed alot of 1/2" holes lately, and the #2 bit has been GREAT.

I keep a fairly full set of cobalts and a full set of garbage I bought at harbor freight. The HF ones really suck, but are good to cut a hole here and there. The cobalt really shines when you are doing alot of drilling back to back. The dewalt sets are pretty good as well, not cobalt, but for the price its a good buy. Best addition to any drill bit is fluid. I keep the generic walmart lubricant around in cases. At $1.10 per can I dont feel bad about using a ton of it, instead of some stupidly priced cutting fluid.

I'm looking at a set of Milwaukee bit set. It's high dollar but they're supposed to last a good long while. Especially when you use a low RPM drill.
