I would personally stay away from the harbour freight welder..But Miller makes excellent stuff. Stick welding is not that hard to learn (especially when set up as dc). I have yet to learn tig, but it seems to be the best for aluminum. What kind of welding are you planning on doing? This will determine which type of welder is best for you. I have a large gasoline powered welder (250 amp) which is great for "heavy" guage metals and a Lincoln 180C mig which is great for the thinner stuff but can be also used on heavier guage especially if you don't mind making multiple passes. Just my .02, but figure out what you plan on welding first, then find a welder that suits your needs.
Whatever process you choose, it takes practice, practice, practice. Hope this helps.

i have a little Lincoln SP135 and it works great for small stuff. i also have a Airco 250 MIG and a Lincoln Precision TIG 225. Since i got the TIG that's usually all i use, but the the SP135 is a great hobby level unit and nicley priced for what it can do.
