Default Wire feed welder is surging

Anyone know what might cause this? I tried replacing the tip, made sure the ground was good, etc. Anything else I should check? This is a Lincoln 110 MIG unit.

If you're talking about the wire feed being
jerky, that's probably just needing the feed
path (but not the rollers!) lubricated. Maybe
adjust the roller pressure too (if it can be)
so pinch is tight, but not bogging the motor.

The feed is just fine. It seems as if the power is surging.

If it is a power supply problem, I would suspect that it would be worse at high current settings. Does it weld thin material ok? If it is only a problem when welding on the higher settings, you may want to check the power cord connections internally (if you are qualified to do so) and look for corrosion, etc. Or, it may be an actual power supply problem. I've never seeno ne of these units go bad....but I'm sure it happens. Just my thoughts. Good luck.

Also, check the connections on your ground clamp...

If I run my little Lincoln Weld-Pak 100 through an extension cord, it will surge like crazy on any of the higher amperage settings. For anything heavy I plug straight into the wall..

Check the liner in the gun as well.

Over time with our MIGs, the liners go bad, and cause the surging. All it takes too is a little kink in the line.

As for power, well I wouldnt give any more to you because you tend to break stuff when you add more power! :p

It has been with an extension cord. Maybe that is it. The welder really has very little use so far. Only had it 6 months or so.

I had to go out and buy a special extension cord for my lincoln welder. Its 50ft long made out of 8 gauge wire. $45 bucks at Home Depot. I found that any smaller wire it would cause problems. In the instruction manual lincoln recommends nothing smaller than 10 gauge wire extension cords, but I found one bigger for the same price.

Mine did the same thing, it was the wire had corrosion on it. It sat for awhile and when I went to use it the wire had like rust or corrosion on it. It made it surge when it tried to feed causing crappy welds.

get this fixed yet? It's common for the liner to get messed up and cause this, or bad grounds

Bad ground will make the wire 'push' the gun back. Not sure if thats the surge you are seeing.

I guess great minds think alike!
