Just for insurance. Throw some crap engine on there for a few days if you can.
Many years ago a buddy bought a cheap stand & it broke overnight screwing up a blown alcohol BBC.

I have the pep boys engine stand, it held up good in rebuilding a few 6cyl engines I have done, but I haven't tried a V8 on it yet, but I would think it would hold up since I was torquing pretty good on the 6cyl I had on it and it was pretty sturdy...

He's a cheap skate, and had no business putting that monster on a stand like that.
That's why I only use the big daddy U shaped stands. Can't tip, can't break. I also don't have a giant *** blower.

As far as the Pep Boys stand goes it sounds like a deal and as long as you monitor the stress points you should be good. But I am a firm believer of "you get what you pay for".
