Default Removing Cylinder Heads

For those of you who have removed the heads off their cars before, what gaskets other than the head gaskets are needed for the job, and does the same apply with a FAST intake? How long did the job take? Easy? Hard? Just need to do some maintenance and replace the gaskets. Thnx.

Unless you have the ARP head studs, you'll need new head bolts too. Can't reuse them.

And it's not hard, since I was able to do it.

It took me a few hours by myself first time.

Yeah, I'll probably just get some new oem bolts for now. Im gonna try to knock it out in one afternoon, maybe 4-6 hours. Was wondering if its enough time. I can rebuild a steam turbine at work so I hope i can do this easy. LOL.

Probably a lot faster to do on a Corvette than a Camaro.

Agreed! A Camaro looks like a bitch to do with the motor tucked in more. Other than header clearance I hope it should go smooth. If I remember correctly, the FAST has an o-ring type gasket that you dont have to change? The FAST has never come off after install so I hope the o-ring is still good.

I did it in about 6 hours in the car but it should be alot easier in a vette. One thing that may be good to have is the small gaskets that go under the crossover tube, or just put a little silicone on the old ones.If you plan on doing any other work on the heads in teh future it would be much better to just buy the arp head bolts, they only cost a little more than the gm ones and they are reusable. Ill be posting my set for sale shortly now that ive upgraded to studs.

Do you have the fast intake gaskets or stock gm gaskets?

Im using Cometics head gaskets, a bit thinner, 0.040. Just wasnt sure what type the FAST used since I didnt install it.

Well the GM gaskets are green and pretty thin compared to the gsaket area on the fast, teh fast gaskets are thick orange seals and can be reused easily.

Lets just say its a little more in depth than usual. Plus, I would like the experience so Im opting to do it myself other than a shop.

Get ARP head bolts.
New cometic gaskets.
Intake gaskets are fine to reuse.
Thread locker.
RTV.
Fluids.
Your first time will likely take you a whole Sat, or both Sat & Sun. That's just how it is, take your time, work slow, do things right. Torque sequence on the heads is key.

Thnx, I got most of that except the ARP's, oem's for now. As for fluids, some recommend new oil but do you really get that much stuff in it? Damn, I just did an oil change last month.
