racing a 3rd gen tomorrow! So there some dude in a 3rd gen that iam going to be running tomorrow. This guy is a cocky *** mother ******. I ll post the details of our conversation when I get off from work. Long story short, this dude is talking all this **** about bhow he can smoke my *** without even knowing my mods...lol!we're racing for 100.00 he claims he's making mid 400's with a 383 smog legal car. He has full boltons elderbrock heads and a smog legal cam,he has cats,373s and a 120 wet shot. I doubt he has h/c. I haven't seen the car.he claims he will smoke my *** on motor to motor. What do you guys think? My mods are ,373s, full boltons I am on bfg"s g force drag radials and a tune

I only have a CC503 cam (which is smog legal with a good tune) in my LT1 with stock heads and intake and I regularly beat LS1's, slightly, but I do.
If he really has decent heads, decent cam, aftermarket intake, and a freeflowing exhaust, you might be in trouble.
That being said, I have yet to see a well-built SBC powered 3rd Gen...I know they are out there...just haven't seen someone put together a combination that works. They usually just throw money and parts at it and wonder why it isn't faster than it is.
I think if he has any weight reduction and is actually making those numbers you are going to get a surprise. Third gens stock have a full cast iron motor and are still lighter than a 4th gen. If the guy has edelbrock heads and a small cam he probably is over 400hp at the flywheel. Dig or Roll? If its a dig and he has some rear suspension work and decent tires and depending on his transmission You may have your hands full.
On the other hand if hes half as full of **** as you say he his you just won about 1.7 tanks of gas!

(re-post)You cant just slap together a 383 and make crazy power, especially if its street legal. The main problem is the stock intake is SUPER restrictive and if you change out the intake its not street legal, unless he really knows his stuff and does some crazy custom porting.
