Brand: Amsoil
Weight/Type: 0W30
Where You Buy It / How Much You Pay: Amsoil (Have an account) / $8.10/qt
How Long You Been Using It: 500 miles
Anything else you wanna add: Gonna try the 0W30 in the 01 B4C, seems to give me another mpg or 2. Will probably switch the '02 from PP 10W30 to Amsoil 10w40 for a little more protection, especially with 98k on the bottom end and 6700 RPM shift points. Use Napa Gold (Wix) filters on everything.

actually no there were none at all. the first synthetic oil was created in the 1800's. long before the internal combustion engine took off. The oils didn't catch on because the motors of the time were so loosely designed that the conventional oils of the day did the job just fine. it wasn't until WW2 that synthetic oils started showing their worth in military aircraft applications because of the EXTREME conditions they were put through. As far as automobile applications the first commercially avaliable synthetic oil was released on the market in 1971 (might be '72) and it was called AMSOIL and amsoil is still the BEST synthetic you can buy bar none. (google it if you like) unfortunatly during that time the motors still had very loose tolerances so synthetics were a luxury that wasnt really worth the money. nowadays however motors are being built to tighter and tighter tolerences so synthetic use is constantly on the rise and will continue to grow until soon all companies will use nothing but synthetic oils in all cars take Honda for example it on the market right now has 13 models that require synthetic oils, thats from a company that prides itself on reliability and longevity and low cost of ownership! NOW on the subject of the motors in our cars let me put it this way. you would all agree that F-bodies year for year all have corvette motors in them right? and GM has said to use synthetic oils in the vette's since the mid eighties right? THEN why would you want to run anything less in your car?

look its a moot point regardless of the information that is thrown out people will believe what they want to believe. But in the end a synthetic oil will give you far better protection especially in high performance applications like our cars. If you do not believe any of this essay i have written for your reading pleasure feel free to pm me and i will attempt to relocate my information and send you the links to LEGITIMATE sources. Oh and by the way I technically do work for Castro and I still swear by the AMSOIL oils they will give you the BEST protection of ANY oil. The only synthetic i know of that comes close is the new Castrol EDGE.

ok guys i went searching and found a few informational sites for your viewing pleasure. the first one is kinda old but is a good wide comparison.

my personal favorite when it come to tests.

Mobil 1 0w-40
Buy it when it's on sale, around $25-$35, sometimes that includes the filter.
Been using it for 4 yrs., around 25k miles.
Wish they carried it in bulk at Walmart.

Is it true that once you run Royal Purple, you more or less have to stick with it, no switching up brands after that? Because of the additives they use, I can't remember exactly...
