Default Cam install cost - Bay Area, CA

Has anyone in NorCal had their cam installed (and tune) by Rick @ Synergy, or Nick @ Newtech? Please PM me if you have had this done and how much you paid.

A shop will probably charge you like $450-$650. I was worried about doing a cam swap and looked into having a shop do it. I ended up doing heads and cam with a friend. It's not that hard. I'd save the money and do it myself if I was you. Just get the tools you need and follow the guide on ls1howto.com. It's nice to do it yourself, that way you know how things work and go together. The hardest part for me was cleaning the block for the new headgaskets. The cam it'self is easy, it's the springs that will take you some time. The springs will take the most time, but won't be hard to do.

I would say if you are up to the challenge then do the swap yourself. Its always good to get your hands dirty with your own car and gives you a satifactory feeling when you are done also. Plus you can learn something from it. As for dyno, we use a very accurate steady state dyno where we can tune your car all the way down to 400rpm and find every ounce of power that your setup has to offer. So hopfully this info helps. Good luck.

Rick
