Hard to get out of stuff unless you have proof, and I doubt you have a camera or something mounted to your car recording everything. Best way to get the speed contest dropped is by hiring a lawyer, judges just listen to them more, they aren't going to believe anything you say, especially when you were clocked speeding too.
If you know you were speeding, and maybe spun your tires even a little I'd probably just take the judges bargain if it's reasonable, lawyers can easily cost more than the fines and there's no guarantee they'll drop anything, but they usually will get the actual court fines/punishments reduced, but then you have to pay them their hefty fees too.

they might not have that option in colorado, and if it's a misdemeanor you are required to appear in court.

It still is.... but, the reality is, you write a statement, the cop says b.s. and the judge sides with the cop. End of story.

Wouldn't you have to be racing someone for to it be considered a "speed contest"?

Were you racing? Where's the guy you were racing? I would think he'd have to prove there was another person or something, otherwise wouldn't it just be "exhibition of speed" and not "speed contest"?

In cali speed contest means alot of things, i suggest you read your states Vehicle code before you make yourself look like an idiot on a public forum.

here is the california section 23109

(a) A person shall not engage in a motor vehicle speed contest on a highway. As used in this section, a motor vehicle speed contest includes a motor vehicle race against another vehicle, a clock, or other timing device. For purposes of this section, an event in which the time to cover a prescribed route of more than 20 miles is measured, but where the vehicle does not exceed the speed limits, is not a speed contest.

(b) A person shall not aid or abet in any motor vehicle speed contest on any highway.

(c) A person shall not engage in any motor vehicle exhibition of speed on a highway, and no person shall aid or abet in a motor vehicle exhibition of speed on any highway.

(d) A person shall not for the purpose of facilitating or aiding or as an incident to any motor vehicle speed contest or exhibition upon a highway in any manner obstruct or place a barricade or obstruction or assist or participate in placing a barricade or obstruction upon any highway.

in the state of COLORADO the statutes say that if you are reving your engine or spinning your tires as if ingaging in a street race you are automatically grouped under the contest of speed section. however i went to the intersction of incodence and took pictures and noticed that there were no tread marks. could this help me in any way?....and i had just had a new clutch installed a little before this happened...would i be able to use that as argument as well?
