I am NOT eligible for traffic school, I had two tickets last year.

Is this the first step I would take in AZ to get an "extension"? Is this the first step in what I want to do? because I'm about to just pay the speeding violations and get it out of my way.
wait till about a day before your court date and call up the phone number listed on your ticket. Request an extension

Right on. Thanks.

So, can they deny my extension since it's so late? what if I called early?

If for some reason they deny an extension, they I have to go to court cause I'll have no time to pay the ticket via mail, the next morning I'd have to go pay it. I don't feel like going to talk to a judge for some civil speeding bs. I'd rather extend and do that stuff later. Know what I mean?

Try calling a day or two before the court date and extend it... most likely they will be fine with it... If not, they'll ask you to ask a judge. Which is no big deal.... just explain to him that you cannot afford to pay it right now and need an extension. If you just want to pay if and forget the whole thing, then you can pay by phone, or by walk-in to the court clerk and write em a check... If you decide to just pay it, then it will hit your insurance... so if I were you I'd fight it...

One ticket from last year I paid and it never hit my insurance. My rates in fact went down. Apparently most insurance companies only check when you start a policy. I heard they don't check much otherwise from an officer, also they generally don't know who your carrier is, so it's hard to report it?

I have two tickets for speeing (18 and 15 over). Both same day. heh. The court date is the same for both tickets. Tickets are like 190/172. I can pay them. It's not the money. I just wanted to see if maybe I could beat it somehow. In IL I used to have a lawyer for like $50 bucks who knew all the judges come and handle ****. But I don't know anyone like that here. I only have a full blown criminal lawyer who I've dealt with, I figure it's gonna be a waste to pay him for something like this.

It's just that missing a couple hours of work to go to court is kinda a pain and I hear the AZ judges are aholes and it's gonna be hard to get out of this anyways.

Talking

Just wanted to update:

I was going to go thru with this method listed by the OP when I received a tint ticket in January of this year. I delayed the hearing date 3 times (the first one was actually done by the court. Normally you're only allowed two before having to post $40 bond). Today was the day of the hearing, nearly 9 months later. I had thought this would only be a hearing with the DA and not an actual trial, but it was. I had gone to village courts that perform this way, but this summons was a county court. This was when I realized I missed my chance to request a trial by written declaration.

My officer was unprofessional, unlike the one officer before her that had a whole bunch of notes and every exact detail, and at the start of every hearing he would list his credentials (You DO NOT want to be nailed by a cop like that, just give up).

My officer only had some scribbled in notes she posted on her own copy of the ticket. She had NO recollection AT ALL of what happened other than what was in her chicken scratch notes. She didn't remember which of the two roads she actually stopped me on (she listed an intersection). I literally said nothing as she embarassed herself in front of the judge with ALL her other hearings and dug her own grave. NOT GUILTY, CASE DISMISSED!!

sorry, i didnt read the whole thread so i dont know if this info has been posted yet.

When writing your Letter; The cop has to prove your guilty based on the situation and your letter. So what i do, is force the police officer to do a bunch of research to the point where he wont bother fighting the ticket.

In my case, i got caught doing 56mph in a 35mph zone. I started with some facts. The traffic was light, and during the daytime with excellent visability, AS THE OFFICER stated on the ticket.
I then requested how the speed was aquirred, and if by radar, when was the radar last calibrated. and if it wasnt calibrated within a certain time spec, for that evidence to be thrown out. (thats my first peice of research for the officer)

Then i requested about the last time the piece of road i got pulled over on had a speed survey done on it. If a survey hasnt been done in the last 5 years, the posted speed limit isnt valid. (second peice of research) by now, the cop is prolly saying **** this...**crumple, crumple; trash**

damn, i forget what else i wrote, it was a long time ago, but there are a few other things.

When i got the letter back from the courts, it said i had won due to "Failure to prosecute" meaning, he didnt want to fill out all the paper work.

Lazy *** cop...

You can do this in FL but you CANNOT request an extension. I am stuck having to pay 133 for improper passing, which is bullshit because I passed when it was a passing zone, but a dump truck turned out in front of the two cars I was passing, delaying me getting back into the proper lane. Not my fault, total bullshit. ******* pigs.

How'd you get caught? You going that fast, and him/her from a stop. they wouldn't have been able to catch you if you got off at the next stop.

I popped on the off ramp and the cop tailed me on the exit. It was a Tahoe of all things.

My roommate and I figure that he was behind us when we jumped on the freeway because it took him a couple minutes to catch up (the off ramp is a clover-leaf and the guy in front of me was doing 25). Plus the "I40 run" as we call them is only about 10 miles long round trip and this was on the way back. We topped out at 156, but we probably only averaged around 135-140 for 2 or 3 miles.

My friend who works for the DPS station in town and he said they're limited to 110 (crown vics are limited to 135).

I went to court yesterday, judge told me that there was no way I was able to do that b/c I had a appear in court. So...I was given a court date. Is there a way to get the trial by declaration now? I have looked through the Colorado Revised Statute and I see nothing about a trial by written declaration.

I can't speak for CO but I can for CA

and I have to say thanks. I am now 2 for 2 in beating tickets this way.

you can track your tickets here and file for the written declaration. www.lasuperiorcourt.org

I have not attempted to fight a speeding ticket yet however, so I am not sure what to say to beat one like that (yet)
