That changed I believe in 99 or 2000, to being smooth on the back with a just a small indentation/crack where the lip used to be.

It's a very subtle difference, but if you compare between real SS cars of various years you should be able to tell between 98 and 99/00+ cars. You probably can't tell too much while driving unless you're real close, but looking at the cars parked it's noticable and you can really feel it with your fingers.

This is what evidence from other cars is telling me. It could have just been a small manufacturing variance that all years experienced, but so far I have seen the larger lip only on the 98 SS cars.

the only diff on the exterior between the years is obviously the black mirrors, and and the different placment of badges
