I say go for the LQ4, It will make power far more easily and you can spray a DECENT shot on the stock motor.

Come on you know you wan to....... As for the trans i say go with a better choice.

Cant afford to Do A 4L80E trans. Rather just put the stall and shift kit in the 4L60E. Mines more street car than race car.

Well good luck on the trans choice. Upgrade to a built one if you start putting down decent power, that heavy *** car is gonna give that tranny hell

I gotta get mine going now that i have it. Mine will be mated to a TH400 I already have, cruising is gonna be soooooo fun Hopefully i can pickup the Fox i found locally, It is a pretty clean roller.

Thought you were gonna put all this in a 80's caprice?

And i have decided that ill be doing heads/cam when i do the swap... well a set of 862's so i can bump CR up. and the cam will be a 2xx

still gonna keep the total cost UNDER $4,000 from start to finish

I've decided it is gonna be a full on racecar, and mustang HOOK on the street w/ stock suspension and a good tire. There are a few guys seeing 1.6' 60's on motor with stock suspension and M/T radial. A 1.4 is not out of the question if you can hook spraying out of the hole. With a stalled auto it should not be too hard to hook on the street.

I just wanted to build something that will be CONSISTANT time after time after time. Plus my pop's is gonna help me now, so i can go even further with the build he has Mig, and Oxy welders and a bunch of machines/tools. Oh yeah that roller i found is $350 and is in decent shape w/ a 8.8

Sounds like a good plan. But i hope you run some forged pistons, and good quality rings on that thing. Cuz its not the block that gets torched... its the rotating assembly.

Me. Im just building a really reliable 4 door street car. That will beat just about any other 4 door in its class.

That will come after i have it running and can better afford to do a forged 370 or 408

H/C, stock bottom end, on a 150 shot should be good for high-mid 10's all day long. They weigh 2800lbs !!

I am gonna have to take my project slow. I have never been faster than 12.0 so I will have to learn to drive it when it is running.

guess we have the same idea motor wise. H/C on stock bottom end. Till i could afford a forged 409CI. I want a street reliable N/A 550rwhp Impala SS. I know its asking alot, but it can be done, as long as you do it right.

Have no idea what it might run in the 1/4. its 4200lbs so no way ill scrape 10sec.

After the 4k swap with 3k Stall/3.73 gears and Slicks. Im thinking Mid 12's???

If you put down 550whp and keep the weight at 4200lbs. It could go 11.47 @ 118, with optimal traction. God that a rolling TANK right there

Here is something to play with, Bench race status .
http://www.jcalculator.com/?c=1_4_mile_calculator

The Fox putting down 550whp @ 280olbs and dead hooking should go 10.1 @ 136

well it doesnt factor in alot of stuff. But pretty good estimate. Go on a cold enough night, you might even hit single digits.

Pretty trick. 11 sec tank.

What trans are you going to use? Are you going to run AC? If so, are you running the stock LT1 AC compress or do you have to swap in something different?

I'm thinking of maybe doing this swap too one day. Since I have a T56, I think I can swap the input shaft from an LS1 and continue to use that trans. I'll ask my trans guy since it's at his shop right now getting some trans work done and replacing a broken clutch.
