Default Swap a LQ4 or Stick with the LT1?

Decisions Decisions..... a wile ago i was gonna do the full LS1 build into the car, but then decided not to due to low funds, improper plan. And the unrealistic nature of what i wanted. But im back to a different/same crossroad.

Ive been looking around and alot of salvage yards have totaled 2500 class Trucks/SUV's with the 6.0L Iron LQ4. Im sure with time and searching in the right place i could track down a:

Low-Mid miled Long Block LQ4
Matching 4L60E trans
Wiring Harness (if usable for the swap)
And Brain box

all for under $1,750

after getting my hands dirty im no longer afraid to atempt the swap with help. I now have a 2nd car so i wont be hurting with the impala down.

It would be almost a direct swap over, only thing i would change up is a LS6 Manifold, Ported TB, QTP headers, and bigger stall. NOT GOING CRAZY! looking for something reliable and different. So i wanna know what you guys think.

Reason for this is Impala SS /LT1 parts are few and expensive to come by. For instance Only 2 Companies make a set of effective headers for my car. Ceramic coated with hi flow cat hook ups makes them over $1200. Very Rare that used ones come up. As far as bolt-ons go theres not much to turn too.

Theres one.

Its just a pain that there's not much to do to the LT1 beyond CAI Intake, Bigger TB, headers, catback, and tune. Thats about it. Then it starts getting into the Grand+ range.

dude, lets be real real, you cant afford $1200 headers but you want to drop a new motor in? Your going to be nickel and dimed to death with any kind of swap. Just put a hot cam and headers in your car, maybe a LT4 heads/intake swap and be satisfied. Or throw in a cc306 w/ a 383 LT4 build. Dont from the LS1 and think thats the only way to roll. Your not going to be winning races in that pig anyway....

Not in another one of those Drunk eBay moments are you man?

And i didn't say i couldn't afford $1200 headers, said i hate the fact that was my only option to get effective headers. And the purpose of the swap wasn't searching for power. It was searching for something reliable and different.

A cam would be effective in getting a small amount of power for MPG and drive-ability sacrifice.

LT4 Heads/Intake Create Fitment issues with all headers/manifolds in a B body. And its what... 2k for heads and intake?

383 LT1 build/ Golem Crate motor would end up costing me about the same. So why not have something different for the same $$$

Did you know Block To Block the LQ4 is only 65LBS heavier than an LS2 Block?

bro I am drunk. But look you might as well cam the LT1 so it sounds tight even though it may not be too fast. My 96 formula had the cc306 in it and sounded nasty. Kind of like my 84 z that had a cammed LG4 in it. Sounded good but wasnt blazing fast.

Herd the 317's arnt too bad. And to fully utilize the L92's you gotta bump up the CC. Herd you cant Mil down the L92's that much/at all cuz the Valves are so big?

So ill pass on the L92/Y76 Intake for a while. Honestly id be stoked to plant 350rwhp on a bolt on LQ4. From what ive read its almost to easy.

What are you drinking on? I just finished my last Fat Tire, and im on to Blue moon now.

Honestly im just sick of the LT1. I live in fear that the Opti is gonna die every day. Yes the Ltx's sound better than LSX's but pop the hood, and people are gonna be wondering wtf ive got going here. Sound wont really matter then. LOL

I milled the heads .30 and am using a .45 gasket, thats what alot of guys with l92 experience suggested. I'm also using the gmpp intake and not the l76. One guy even said 440 to the wheels, goodluck with whatever u decide!

i was honestly Just gonna go to a yard and pick one outta a truck, or just buy the whole truck and sell off parts for profit.

That way i get the Brain, Trans, and full motor. Dont gotta run around searching for what i need or dont need.

But for giggles what comes with that short block?
