Default Anyone do the trap door for fuel pump. AZ

How was it easy ?
I guess from what I have been reading just cut as shallow as possible to avoid hitting items below.
What gauge steel in the metal. I'm wonder if you can use these to play it safe.

you need more of a dremel with cut off wheel for this.Theres only 1/8inch from sheet metal to the lines so you have to be precise but its very easy. The upper left corner is where all the danger is so just be extra careful there and youll be golden.

my buddy was cutting it for me while i was closing my eyes... he did a really good job... we were cutting it and we cut enough to slip in a metal plate under where we are cutting just in case we went deeper than we should've but he never touched it!! use the dremel you won't **** up!

I just have to check my fuel pressure first to see if my fuel pump is giving the grief I'm going through now. I like to prepare.
If it turns out to be the fuel pump I think I spend the extra money and get the complete unit from GM and just drop it in instead of this replacing just the pump gluing the plastic tub back on around the pump and so on.

+1 for the dremel or grinder with a cutoff wheel. There is more space than just 1/8 of an inch. If you take your time and cut slowly, you shouldn't have a problem. We were extra cautious and cut the corner away from the lines and connections and then peeled the metal back and slipped a metal plate under it that we used to shield the lines and wires. But we never hit the plate. Its a simple job, take your time.

You can't check the fuel pump, all you can do is check the fuel pressure. Its easy, hook up a fuel pressure gauge to the schrader valve and test the pressure @ prime, @ cranking, @ idle, and @ WOT. If it falls short from the norm, than your pump is probably on the way out. When my stock pump went bad in my 97 SS, the fuel pressure was good and prime, crank, and idle, but at WOT it dropped down to 20 psi and would cause the car to stumble. Got a Granatelli kit (Racetronix is better) with a new Walbro 255 lph pump and everything is gravy.

Might want to double check that you can do the trap door mod on a convertible.

and why not ?
I took a look in the trunk and folded down the rear seat. The area to cut looks the same as all the pictures I've seen.
Give me your thoughts.

Don't have firsthand experience working on a vert but I recall hearing something about a brace being in the way on convertible models. Could be wrong, I'm sure a search will clear everything up.

I think your getting confused on a cross member under the car for SLP ypipe. When I had SLP LT and there ypipe I had to cut the cross member.
But if you find any info PM me?
Thanks

i've done it for a few people. it's really easy actually and once it's done if you ever need to do it again you can change the pump in 30 min. if that.
