It sounds great but it just does not work.
Like the old saying "If it sounds to good to be true. It most likely is to good to be true"
You have these exact things happening right now. What do think insurance companies do? Make money. You only make money when you put a claim off for as long as possible in the hopes that the patient just dies and goes away. Our current system is far worse than universal health care. Not that universal health is the best way to go either. We need a hybrid of both. A non-profit health care system that everyone who is paying now continues to pay, thus keeping tax increases out of the equation. While covering every American citizen. Insurance companies are dragging everyone down the toilet, with increased costs, while providing less benifits. Hell, I say we merge all the insurance companies, in this country, Health, Auto, Home, into one giant not for profit oganization to cover our countries insurance needs. How many times have we heard how homeowners are being screwed out of there benifits, because the flooding caused by a hurricane is not covered under hurricane insurance. Or the people in Cali. that had their houses burn to the ground, and later found they were only getting 60-70% of the homes value back. Non-profit insurance, think of the possibilities.

Do you have a strong opinion on that? Probably not.
Our country was started through a revolution, and when America was established, we had a document, with some basic principles, and rules, that we should live by. This document was written by the only men who actually had the ***** to fight against corruption. The constitution states that if we as American's believe that our government is corrupt, we have the right, and the obligation to overthrow the government...
The patriot act ***** all over the constitution. It states that anybody who is against the United States government, is a terrorist against America. And as a terrorist, we lose all of our rights/freedoms as Americans.
Our own government has found a way to take away our rights, without us ever knowing it. It won't be long until we lose our right to bare arms. These are the facts, these are the issues. We all know what's going on, but we aren't doing anything about it... Yet, we have a strong opinion on who the president should be...

This has to be the best post I've read so far. And the sad thing is it's the truth. At this point the President can call for marshall law and stop the election entirely. Who will you vote for then? No one. And if you try to overthrow him, guess what. He'll call in his government backed, privately owned mercenary army, (Black Water), to kill you. Good Luck

We're in the war for a reason, to spread world peace and help countries become more independently sufficient.
We are in the war to stop Hussien from possesing "weapons of mass destruction". Which in fact no evidence of said weapons has ever been produced.
Here is something Obama voted on. http://www.govtrack.us/congress/vote.xpd?vote=s2008-213

And here is an odd thing.
This is the Senate's October 2008 Economic Stimulus Relief Bill. This bill was originally introduced in March 2007
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h110-1424
Why would a bill introduced in 07 be called new legistation to save the economy, over a year and half later? The President had a plan to stick us with this bailout long ago. And only now was able to pass it due to the state of the economy.

As stated above, just research the Federal reserve to see who pulls the strings of this country. The president and all of our federal gov. are nothing more than puppets. The citizens of the U.S. are either to ignorant or lazy to do any research about how and why our country operates. I pray to GOD the Patriot Act sunsets. Repub or Dem is just game they play to pacify the people, pure and simple.

From your Govtrack link:

"This bill was originally introduced in March 2007 and passed the House as the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008. In October 2008, it was co-opted as the so-called "vehicle" to pass the relief bill with an amendment that rewrites the whole bill."

When it was introduced in 2007, it had nothing to do with this bailout. When the bailout bill passed, it was a completely different bill with the same name as the old one.

So would it be a correct statement to say this was done so that there was no need to introduce an entirely new bill allowing for it to be passed faster?

I've only recently started this kind of research and still don't fully comprehend evrything I find.

I'll try to explain this the best I can. It's not exactly my area of expertise.

According to the Constitution, only the House can introduce revenue bills. If the Senate wants a revenue bill, they either have to wait for the House to pass one or "co-opt" an already existing bill. The Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 was introduced in March 2007 and prohibited employers and insurance companies from refusing to hire / insure people because of a genetic predisposition to diseases and other illnesses. In October 2008, the bill was pretty much rewritten (via an amendment) to serve as the bailout bill. Basically, because the Senate couldn't introduce a new bill, and (for some reason) didn't want to wait for the house to pass theirs, they grabbed a bill that was pretty much dead and rewrote it.

If anything, this goes to show that the name of a bill has absolutely no inherent relation to the content (ie. PATRIOT Act). Without doing any research, no one would know the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 was a trillion dollar corporate welfare package. I can see it happening in the future... a campaign ad blasts someone for voting against the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008, but like all campaign ads, they won't tell the whole story.

Anybody catch this.

Here is scary fact, about John McCain.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keating_Five

The Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s. The five senators, Alan Cranston (D-CA), Dennis DeConcini (D-AZ), John Glenn (D-OH), John McCain (R-AZ), and Donald W. Riegle (D-MI), were accused of improperly intervening in 1987 on behalf of Charles H. Keating, Jr., chairman of the Lincoln Savings and Loan Association, which was the target of a regulatory investigation by the Federal Home Loan Bank Board (FHLBB). The FHLBB subsequently backed off taking action against Lincoln.

Lincoln Savings and Loan collapsed in 1989, at a cost of $2 billion to the federal government. Some 23,000 Lincoln bondholders were defrauded and many elderly investors lost their life savings

http://www.suntimes.com/news/politics/m ... eb.article

Here are the truths and falsehoods regarding Sen. John McCain's role in the Keating Five savings and loan scandal:

1) John McCain was "exonerated" of any role in the scandal.
False.

The Senate Ethics committee censured McCain, saying he "exercised poor judgment in intervening with the regulators."

http://www.samefacts.com/archives/john_ ... _fraud.php

The national media has failed to note one of the most interesting aspects of Senator McCain's recent speech on the housing crisis. He called, as what he termed as a matter of the greatest urgency, for the government to meet with the top tier accounting firms to induce them to back off, reporting market value losses at banks and other financial institutions. This would reprise one of the most disastrous public policies of the S&L debacle -- accounting forbearance." His call for government-sponsored accounting fraud

Or this?

Well you have to hope Palin doesn't become President, her hubby doesn't seem to like our country very much.

This afternoon, the director of Division of Elections in Alaska, Gail Fenumiai, told TPMmuckraker that Todd Palin registered in October 1995 to the Alaska Independence Party, a radical group that advocates for Alaskan secession from the United States.

High gas prices anyone?

You mean taxes like this?
http://www.alaskajournal.com/stories/10 ... 1026.shtml

The governor's tax plan would increase taxes on the industry by $700 million to $900 million a year, depending on oil prices, according to estimates given by the Department of Revenue when Palin released details of the proposal Sept. 4.

Alaska's taxes on oil are already the highest in North America and North Slope production costs are some of the highest in the world.

Alaska producers have enjoyed good profits with high oil prices, but the state has benefited as well. ConocoPhillips earned a $2.3 billion profit from its Alaska production operations in 2006, but paid an equal amount in taxes to the state and an additional $700 million in royalties, for a total of $3 billion paid to the state.

Because of the “progressivity” index in the PPT, which raises the tax rate at higher oil prices, ConocoPhillips is now paying 25 percent of its net profit per barrel in severance tax, up from the base tax rate of 22.5 percent. Palin's new proposal would increase the base rate from 22.5 percent to 25 percent and have the progressivity index kick in earlier. This would have the effect of raising ConcooPhillips' actual tax rate to about 29.5 percent at current oil prices, Mitchell told the Oct. 11 forum.

Under the current PPT, the total government take — combining state, local and federal shares — is 64 percent of industry's net production profits. Palin's proposal would raise it to 68 percent, Mitchell said
