Default Is this a decent price on a '01 Z06 w/71k miles?

http://www.carmax.com/enus/view-car/...6-56246ce3761a

I'm kinda sorta looking for a vette to possibly trade in my '02 Z28 (28k miles) and I just saw this one on carmax. It's pretty much exactly what I want and to me the price isn't bad. I know there '02 and up Z06 have some benefits over the '01 but I'm not sure exactly what they are.

What say you? Test drive it or pass?

id give it a test drive to see if you really enjoy it but keep in mind your most likely trading a mint 28k z28 for a car that has 71k miles and most likely has seen a beating quite a few times. for a little extra cash id wait for a lower mile one. that one looks kinda dull and dirty

Yeah I would be careful. If you got a nice Z28 with low miles, theres no way I would trade in at a used car lot for a car you don't know any history about. I with him on that car probably has seen a beating.

Get a carfax on it from the dealer or just run the vin. Carfax isnt perfect but it will tell you how many owners there have been any major problems with the car, recalls, flood damage etc. I bought my 03 a few months ago and I looked at several 01-04 zo6's. I was shocked at how many owners had been through some of the cars I was looking at, one 02 I looked at had been through EIGHT onwers in 9 years??? Needless to say I passed on that one, thats a red flag for me. Ended up getting my 03 with 36k miles, 1 owner car, almost completely stock. Paid $23k. 02-04's go for a bit more than the 01's, different cam, and a number of other changes.

Check out post #5 in this thread for differences from 01-02's:

I got my Z28 with 19k miles, 1 (older) owner, so I know it's been taken care of and I only paid 10,500. I'm not liking the higher mileage of the Z06 but from first impressions, it looks pretty good. I'll see if I can get more info on the car before I check it out. I wish they had a better pic of the glove box with the options so I could tell if it has the Z51 package.

My gut's telling me to hold out for an '02/'03 with lower mileage.

In my experience CarMax always has pretty spot on pricing. You're never gonna find a great deal, but you're never really gonna overpay too much either.

I just went and test drove a 03 Z06 and loved it but they are wanting $25,000 so I'm going to keep searching. I would keep searching there are alot of low mileage Z06's out there.

I had an 01 and it was great. Really not a huge difference in feel from an 02-04, and youll probably mod it anyway. I paid $20k for mine in 2010, it was Speedway White and only 352 were made and was a 2001 only color so they usually sell for a bit more.

Just be sure to get a carfax report and make sure its in good shape and no dash lights on or anything. Your car has awesome mileage and all but you will still get raped at the dealer trading it in, youd be better off selling it privately if you are able.

I found an '02 with 62k miles for 20k at a large dealer near me. Might go kick the tires and see if they're willing to make a deal.

Why did you sell your 01 so quickly? Just curious, if you don't mind me asking.

Well...

Bought it October 23rd 2009
Bought my first house(at the age of 24) May 31st 2011, at which time pregnant girlfriend and her 3 yr old moved in with me.
Had my first child September 18th 2011

I sold the vette July 2011 mostly to get outta the $500 a month payment, could have kept it but didn't want to stress the wallet. Plus I work 65+ hrs a week and still have my 68 firebird 400 and 98 formula drag car and just picked up a 2000 ws6.

I really enjoyed having it but dont have much time to enjoy it. Maybe someday I'll pick up a C6 or another C5Z but I'm content for now.

and this is why some cars have lots of owners.

8 seems like way to many.....but I am the 5th owner of my 03.

I bought mine from an enthusiast on corvette forum. I love it. I wouldn't worry about buying an 01 if you are going to mod it anyway - although the 02-04s do resale for higher.

I think that price is VERY fair.
