Default Who is running 285-40-17's on all four corners?

Thinking about running 285-40-17's on all four corners. I have 17x9.5 rims BTW.

Any problems?

Do you guys who are running all 285's notice any excess wandering on less than desirable roads compared to more skinny front tires?

That will happen any time you go wider.

I have no problem, but I wish I didn't have 285's on all corners (they were on the car when I bought it). I don't like the extra rotational mass due to the larger tire and rim. Also, I'm lowered and don't want to beat and chop up my car to get 315 drag radials to fit, and I can't run 275 drag radials because it would look retarded. I'm hoping that the new Greg Weld rears comes out so that I can switch to those...

I was thinking of going wider from 275 all around to 285's. But when I spoke to Americas tires, they advised me not to go 285 in the front. Why is that? Is there any downfall to doing this? Price isn't a problem, GSD3's are going pretty cheap now. And matching all four tires means I can rotate them to extend the tread life.

they probably said in the front because the fronts are more liable to rub simply because, well, you turn your front tires and not your rear... 275's dont rub at all so even if 285's did rub it would be barely and only when you crank the wheel all the way.

i have some pretty good wandering with my 275's...is that normal? i went from the factory salad shooters to 17x9.5 and 275's. dont mean to thread hijack. I have also heard that the wider the tire is the more prone it is to hydroplane.

I've got 285's all the way around and the same size rims as the OP. They fit fine, no rubbing. They may have touched ever so slightly in the front but only when turned all the way. They do wander pretty good but I think it's alignment since I need one. My buddies had 275's all around and it wanders a little also.

They came on the car but I'm gonna put a smaller tire up front just for looks, I like the back to be wider.

275/40/17's all the way around, mine drives straight and handles great, but will catch about every major grove or rut in the road, don't think the nitto dr's help either on the back, anyone know if the 315/35/17 will fit on the factory 17x 9.5 wheels ? thanks

I've checked on tire rack and 285/40/17 are going for I think 210 and 275/40/17 216. But the 285s are on back order till nov 15.
