goodyear GSD3 or nitto 555R
guys im looking at 275/40/17 all around. i really am leaning towards the GSD3 because they might last a bit longer, and might be safer in bad weather and probably look beefier than the 555r. but im wondering how well can the GSD3 hook compared to the 555R for a street car? any pics or personal experiences?

I have the GS-D3's in 315's and they hook like ****....and when I mean hook like ****, I mean 2nd gear at 4k pinning it and breaking sideways at 40-45mph.
I want to sell them and get DR's.

i used to have both those tires but were 255/16's and the GS d3 seemed to hook pretty well pretty close to the nittos.. nittos have to real hot so if you where try to race from a stop light make sure 2 lights to race on..they'll be sticky enough then. for nice looking tire the new m/t 17" looks real nice and hooks real good on the street. i'd run the GS's

I'd get the GSD3's....I had the Nittos and they hooked great on the street, but they didn't last long at all. I might have got 5,000 miles out of them...and I only went to the track twice and made a total of 8 passes with them. I just run BFG KDWS's all around. I've run them on the front since I bougth the car, and except for the Nittos, I've always had them on the back too. IMO they drive great, are fairly smooth, and they last forever (400-treadwear). Nittos really were fun from a slow roll, but I can't justify a set per year for street duty.

thanks hawk, well if these GSD3 can atleast somewhat hook pretty well for a cammed/stalled car on the street since its mainly a fun street car then i probably would go with the GSD3 over the drag radials.

I'd go GSD3's up front and Nittos in the back. I've loved my 275 Nittos. They've hooked real hard on the street/strip. Plus, I've got around 8-9k on them, and they still have decent tread left. Having them has convinced me to get some 315 Nittos for my 17x11 ZR1's I ordered last week.

Here are some pics for ya man, and like I said before, the smalller tire isn't very noticeable.
When I was on those I could spin through first but I'd hook hard in 2nd, now with my 315 BFG KD's I spin all the way through second fairly easily.
If you have nice roads around your area I wouldn't worry about the Nittos in the rain. Our roads around here suck and always have standing water in the tire groves, but on roads that have proper runoff they were never a problem.
Edit: Second pic shows good comparison of 275 BFG vs. 275 Nitto.

these are my nittos. there not really all theat small i have had a lot of other brands and imo falkens are about the skinyest i have seen. mine hook really good street and strip if i get em hot. i have 3-4k on mine and they look new and they have been to the track several times.
you really cant compare street tires to dr's the rubber compound is different.
i have had the regular nitto 555's and they hooked good for a street tire.
hope this helps.
