Default 16x8.5 Weld Pro-star XP's

Will the 16x8.5 Weld Pro-star XP's fit properly on an LS1 F-body?? The bs is 5.5 inch. Will they rub on the brakes with the wheel, or on the quarter panel with a 26-10.5x16 tire?? Thanks.

Whats up Nate??
I think you have to grind your calipers down for that backspacing.

they will fit with in the XP's but with the regular prostars and draglites you have to grind the caliper. the XP's are made for late model cars with bigger brakes. and that tire will fit

Wudd-up Justin. You coming to the meeting @ Funhouse Pizza?? Wheels look good.

Nicetry: Will there be enough bs to keep the tires off of the quarter panel?? I got QA1's and Pro-kit, so I can guarantee that the car will "squat" enough to get to them. Also, How do you like your 5.3 heads? Which ones did you go with?

They should fit but word of caution, that BS is pretty narrow and will put your tires far outward of your fender area. If your running wide or larger diameter tires it may very close to hitting the fender lips, especially if your lowered. You really need about a 6.25-6.5 BS to make the wheels sit correctly in the fender area.

If weight is a concern and your using them for drag racing, I would reconsider your choices as the xp's are very similar in weight to your stock rims.

good luck,

Steve

Yah, I agree with this post. The guy from SJM was really helpful when I called him about wheels. No grinding with some of thier 15 inch wheels and very light, too.

I would LOVE Bogarts, but I allready have the 15x3.5 Welds. I'm just looking for something that would match nicely and also be functional without problems. I thought that 5.5 BS was a little "shallow." Any other allternatives??

hmmm that's a tough call, if you go with a 26" tire you should be alright, if they do rub all you will have to do is just roll the fender a little. you just have to make sure to get the right back spacing.
i love my 5.3 heads, they were done by greg goode. the car is apart right now awaiting a forged shortblock so i can spray the **** out of it. but lets put it this way i never had the ls6 intake pulleys, a good tune, and i was keeping up with crager. so i'm not complaining.

Who does Greg Goode work with?? Are they about a stage 2 head?? What's the best your car ran before the disassembly??

I'm not certain of their size combonations but choose either something with less width and similar BS. Even their 8's running at 5.5 BS is alittle far out for our tastes. Depending on your year, that would be like taking stock sized rims and moving them outward up to an inch which we feel isn't appealing. We set our 8's alittle more then 6 inches for BS to give you an idea. If they offer 10's choose those with approx 7.5 BS.

Good luck!

lol a 8" with a 5.5 back space is going to look the same on the outside as a 10 with a 7.5 back space.

Nicetry,

I'm not going to get into a debate regarding fitment specs as to each his own of how one would like their rims to fit on a car.

Your correct, if your looking at a side profile of the car, but look from the rear, and you will see a very different story as the wheel is off-center in the wheel-well. Like mentioned previously, take a stock 8 inch rim and put about an inch spacer on it and see how differently the wheel looks on the car. Will it fit, sure it will. Would it be incorrect to spec a wheel out this way.. well not really, but I'm sure that many guys would prefer the wheel to fit inside the wheel-well and have the tire/rim centered correctly.

Back in 2000,

I had for rear:

Weld Draglite XP 16x8 + Dr's
Weld Draglite XP 16x9 + 11.5x16 ET Streets

Both fit fine.

Not sure about Pro Star XP's.

XP's are like 21-23 lbs, so the weight of stock rims.

I have Pro Star 15x10's in back now, my rear brakes look like Gerard after the Subway diet.

I've got to do something about wheels and tires next summer. I still use firebird take offs with 16x11.5x16 ET streets, and I can't hook. Still haven't decided exactly which wheels to get. I like the bogarts a lot but they are a bit more than I wanted to spend on wheels.

those 11.5's wouldn't be very good for an 8 inch rim

i understand what you are trying to say and i would go with the 10 inch wide wheel also but, unless you get bogarts (which i would prefer), the most back spacing you can get on a draglite or prostar is 5.5 on an 8" and 7.5 on a 10" wheel.

What is the BS on a stock '98 Camaro rim?? 6 or so??? The most BS I could find on the 16 inch wheels was 5.5 for the 8.5 rims and 4.5 for the 8's. I'd rather it be as close to stock BS as possible, but I'm NOT going to grind my brakes. I don't have big enough... "marbles" for that task.

yeah in the XP's you can't get a decent backspacing, to get something that looks good and you won't have to grind your going to have to get bogarts etc.
