Will a 17" gto spare fit a 4th gen?

Wrong bolt pattern, sure you can make it fit...but its not the correct pattern. They are also not designed for what you're considering using it for and not a light choice by any means. I don't think they would fit over your calipers anyways. I'd say a C5 vette spare would, but they are not light, nor designed for what you're using it for.
I can build you a 17x4.5 drag wheel to directly fit over your C5 brakes. We use them on the C5 vette setups. It will be light, it will be rated for drag racing, and it will directly fit your brake package. I can also build a matching rear-wheel design too.
Here'a video of one that was built for M&H. http://www.mandhtires.com/videos/48_video_php9zetbx.wmv
Give me a call tomorrow if you need more assistance.

Yep - Not quite the same...
The bolt pattern between a "standard" / domestic GM wheel and an Aussie GM / Holden is not the same; it is close (only "off" by about 0.54 mm if I recall correctly - I did the math back in 2004 when my little brother got his 04 GTO), but really not do-able.
Either GMHTP or HPP did a conversion article (circa 2005) where f-body rims were actually machined to correct the bolt pattern mis-match, allowing the altered rims (which were wider than stock GTO 17" rims) to be used on a Goat with air bags raising up the rear end.

The bolt pattern on a GTO is 5x120mm
The bolt pattern on the 4th Gen is 5x120.65
There is .65 mm difference.
Close to what a lot of wheel guys do with 5x115mm and 5x4.5 (114.30mm)
