Default Drag front tires?

I got some 15X4 Bogarts that I want to get tires for. What are you guys using for front tires on a 3.5" - 4" rim? Should weight be a consideration? I mean it seems silly to pay al this money for lighter rims only to use a heavier tire. Or is the difference in tire weight too small to worry about? I've seen hoosier fronts in Summit and Jegs mags, any inherant advantage to those tires?

Thanks guys,
Mike

A set of cheap VW tires will be sufficient tire. I have a set of Sportmaster GLT's size 165 R15 I believe these are cheap wheels from Pep Boys.

MT ET Fronts 26-4.5-15...........12lbs
MT Sportsman fronts 26-7.5-15 4 ply..........16lbs for cars under 3000lbs
MT Sportsman fronts 26-7.5-15 8 ply...........20lbs for cars over 3000lbs

For the strip only I recommend the ET Fronts
For the street the sportsmans work very well

I was interested in this too...I submitted a post similar to this one. I dont necessarily have to have the most expensive ones or the cheapest. I also dont want a street only or a strip only. I kinda want something in between. Price isnt really a big factor because Im already set on what rears I will be running and Im sure that the fronts couldnt be any more than the rears. So what do you all recommend for a strip/street front? Thank you.

I'm just looking for the best tire I can get. I don't mind a none DOT tires unless there is an inherant problem with them on the street. In other words, I don't mind taking a chance with the law(cause honestly who's gonna know I'm running none DOT fronts), but if they are unsafe I don't want them. Not sure what sets a drag front apart from a regular old tire. Any incite? Price(within reason) isn't the issue. Weight and braking are.

Hawkn01,

What do you recommend for both street and strip use? What Im looking for and what the original poster are looking for are a bit different. Im looking for something in the middle of the ballpark...strip, but will be able to be run on the street without any problems or worries. If it had to be more of one than the other, it would be more strip than street. When I say street, Im only talking in town, not on the highway or any kind of extreme driving. Thanks

8 ply Sportsmans if your car is over 3000lbs(per MT recommendation).
4 ply Sportsmans if your car is under 3000lbs(per MT recommendation).
The 8 ply will be the safest tire for use on the street.

My car is a full weight car, no weight reduction, so I know that its more than 3000 lbs. easy. Isnt the 8 ply going to be stiffer? If so, doesnt that have an affect on how it reacts on the track? Lastly, the 12, 16, and 20 lbs. you mentioned...is that the weights of the tires or the amounts of tire pressure? Thanks

That's the weights of the tires them selves. If your car is full weight you should run the 8-ply tire. It has stronger sidewalls to handle the loads on the tires while turning. They will work fine at the track. It's up to you as to what tire to run, there are safety factors involved with choosing a front tires, ultimatly it's your choice.

Wilwaxu, they should work with radials on the back. The old saying years ago was don't mix a radial on one side and bias on the other. The fronts should be ok with radials on the back.
