Sorry for the noobish question, I have a 94 Z28 and am looking at an 18X9.5 rim with a +57mm offset on all four rims. Will this work and look fine? I was also considering an 18X10.5 rim with a +58mm offset for the rears. Will a spacer be needed? Much thanks in advance!

They will fit. Either size. The 9.5" w/ 56 mm offset will bolt right up F&R, for appearance reasons you could run a small spacer with new lug studs. The 10.5" w/ 58 mm offset will bolt up to the rear, but will require some minor inner wheel well massaging, a 1/2" to 3/4" spacer/adapter could be run wil ne lugs for looks.

My old ZO6's were exactly what you list.

You also had a 17X9.5 rim with a 57mm offeset? Did you like the way it looked? Was there much of a "lip" if any?

Never had a 17" x 9.5", 57 mm offset wheel on my Red SS. The stock wheels were 17" x 9" witha 56 mm offset. OEM wheels really don't have much of a "lip"

Thanks a bunch for your info! I've decided on a set of the 18X9.5 inch rims all around. Would you recommend a 275/40/ZR18 or 275/35/ZR18 tire? Thanks again in advance...

i would go with the 275/35/18....much closer to the original circumfrence of the original tires....less trouble..odometer will be more accurate

i have read and read, so what is the largest tire on a 15x10 you can run with out the BFH. and is it that big of a deal to use the bfh on the inner fender. running a drag radial for now. wanting max traction. thanks

Yes, but the 40 series tire will ride 10 times better than the 35 series tire and I'm talking from personal experience on that one too. I had 275/35/18 on the rear first. When I bought new tires I went to the 275/40/18 just like on the vette, gained 1 inch in overall tire height, but the ride was waaaayyyyy better. Anyone with a predator or hypertech programmer can adjust for this change and chances are he has one.

I unfortuantely cannot assist with a drag tire selection . . . .

Not dangerous, but the tire is pretty stretched out and not performing how it should, and more than likely wearing a bit unevenly. You're ok...id just suggest a 275 next time around.

Okay, here's the deal...

I wouldn't be surpised if this wasn't answered somewhere else but if it is, I haven't been able to find it. Forgive me if it is out there and I just missed it.

I am going to go with a set of 18s...9.5" in the front and 10.5" in the rear. This is going to go on a lowered (about 1.25 inches with DMS springs) 2002 Camaro SS.

I am looking to find the perfect offset where there is as little clearance issues as possible, but still fit relatively flush. I think I would rather roll the fender than do the BFH mod, but I want to avoid both if possible.

If I read correctly, the front offset should be +38 (for an 18 x 9.5) and the rear offset should be +50 (for an 18 x 10.5). Is my thinking correct or is there a better f-body offset that I should be using for the look and clearance that I need? I just want to make sure I have it as perfect as possible as I am having a set of custom wheels made and I will only get one shot at it.

Thanks!

Hey Jason.

To be honest the sizes you ask about are what I run. 38 mm offset front and rear. This the the smallest offset I would recommend for these wheels.

The 40 mm to 44 mm range is a good safe bet. Check out my phot album on my FIKSE's and judge for yourself. Any more ?'s just ask. Nice to see you over here at the "Tech"

I have a question about some rims. I have a 1999 Camaro SS and I want to put ZR1s on it. My friend has a set of AFS ZR1s that are 17x9.5 with a 36 mm backspacing. We put the rim on my car today and it had a good bit of clearance. I noticed in the beginning of this thread that only 50mm offset would work. If I install the slp wheel "jouncer" would this help, or would I be wasting my time. The wheel looked like it would work, but I want to ask the experts before i shell out money on something that I can't use. Here is a pic of the jouncers:

Sort of a waste of time. All that they will do is limit the axle travel, and minimize the risk of the tire contacting the wheel well lip.

Well, I just put my 17X11 ZR1 (50mm offset) wheels on with D3 315s. I used the big F hammer which I thought cured my problem of rubbing.

I noticed however that when I pull into a driveway at an angle (so that the axle is not level), I get rubbing on the tire ... inner fender I believe. Also when I floor it and turn at the same time, it happens as well.

Should I just get a spacer ? How safe are they ? And where is a good place to get them from ?

thanks

Take the wheels off, and see where the tire is rubbing. Do a littel more massaging. This is time consuming to get all the areas just right. Also, do you have an adjustable panhard, to recenter the rear?
