Default Cleaning smoothie II 's

I don't know what kind I have but I think my wheels are polished ? Any way what is the best way to clean them . They need some TLC , any way should I wet sand ? or is there a certain product I should buy ? They also have water stains that I am having a difficult time getting off . If possible I would like to get them as shiny as a mirror . Thx in advance LS1 tech wheel gurus

well, you gotta make sure your wheels dont have a clear coat on them if you want to go through the whole wet-sanding process... I have been using Mothers Billet Polish and it works great! just take your time and spend a hour or two per wheel and you will get the shine you're looking for!

If they are clearcoated, you can sand the clearcoat off. I am doing it with a customers wheels right now. They are turning out very nice. I use Bling master Aluminum polish. the stuff works awsome!!! Here are some Pic's of my TT2's

Use 1500 and 2000 grit sandpaper and some liqiud soap mixed with water in a spray bottle. Keep the wheels wet while sanding them. 1500 grit 1st then 2000 grit. Them use a good Aluminum polish. You will be suprised how well they turn out!!!

Can you post pics?

Better make sure they are polished and not just chrome.

An easy way to find out is take some Aluminum Polish. Work a indescrete spot, if it turns black its UN COATED, IF it looks the same, then its coated and need to be probably stripped.

I got the mothers polish on there and it turned black . So I guess my wheels are uncoated . So the next step is to wet sand ?

I would use the mother's polish first and see how the results turn out. If it looks good, great, keep going. If it's still not what you're expecting, then you'll have to go more aggressive and wet-sand like mentioned above, then polish them after.

^ Agreed, always work with the least aggressive product.

I recently worked on a Set of CCW's and that was a situation where I would need to put this on my coffee table and Polish, and Polish, and Polish some more and it would come back.

BUT in the holes, the owner and I agreed that you needed to get a Dremel and some sanding barrels and basically create a new layer and then polish to shine.

It was a "paying" job and he was not "paying" so I did what I could. Here is a pic of the best of the 4 rims... Look into the slots and you see that it's dingie and dark, the fronts were HORRENDOUS. Once the crap was removed and working the polish that these rims will look killer again.

Remember with aluminum, you need the polish the wheel down to the deepest scratch so be careful when introducing new scratches.

My Smoothie 2's are just polished as yours should be. I am going to sand them this weekend in hopes to bring them back to life.

Everytime I wash my wheels I get these water drops that dry on . Even thought I have completely dried my wheels off. Can I use goo gone or something to prevent this from happening ? Also if I were to wet sand can I use 1000 grit ?

look for a product called Never-Dull, used to be in a blue/white tin, but since they were bought out by Eagle One I think the tin is all black. It is a wading cloth, tear off a hunk, it already has a little polish built in and wipe your wheels down after they are dry. It will turn black as the polish in it works, wait for it to haze over and buff off. Works real good between polish jobs.

I use Mother's Billit Polish on my Smoothie II's. looks great everytime i use it to polish the wheel. also, if i need to wetsand, i start with 0000-steel wool and then 2000 grit, then polish to a shine. they turn out awesome!!! here's a pic i took just before mounting new DR's on them in May 2010.
