Default Can Unevenly Worn Tires Cause Steering Wheel to Vibrate

A while back I noticed my steering wheel was shaking a little, mainly at speeds higher than 55mph. I got the car aligned (4 wheel computerized alignment) and the tires/wheels balanced. That seemed to help, but not fully take care of the issue. I bought the forged wheels/tires used, and one tire seems to have worn a little odd (like towards the inside of the tire). Can unevenly worn tires cause a shake? Should I be checking out any suspension components? One wheel stud is snapped too...could that little weight difference be causing it?

i dont know about the wheel stud, but uneven tire wear could definitely cause a shimmy

Yes it can also you need to get an alignment if your wheels are wearing unevenly.

right.... but if the tire is already worn. get a new set of tires while you're at it.

I'm wondering how much that broken wheel stud is factoring in the shake? I have wear issues on my 275s (negative camber) and have since swapped the tires/wheels to the opposite sides so the wear is on the outside to get some more life out of them. The other day was wet and our freeway is being widened so there's uneven pavement. I was getting on the freeway and started to get some nasty vibration in the steering wheel that I haven't had before using that onramp. I thought maybe a wheel weight feel off. But after that the car seems fine. I've driven it often since then and haven't had the vibration so it must have been the wet road and uneven pavement. Not that this is what's happening to you...just passing along some of my experience.

Either the toe adjustment on the alingment is way off. Or you may have a bad tie rod or wheel bearing worn out. Or.. u may have a bad ball joint or control arm bushing.....

This is oh so true. I bought new springs, lca's two diff types, two types of tranny mounts, new shocks all to finally find out it was my actual wheel. The local shops would balance my tires; but, the Hunter road force machine at the dealer picked up that it was actually the wheels.
