Default Nitto NT555R launch prep

Finally going to pickup a couple of these for my car, and was just curious what kind of prep they like at the track? I've heard everything from treat it like a standard street radial to a nice smokey bit to get them very heated, whats everyone had success with?

Also on a second note, I remember reading in the 30K mile thread that 25PSI is good for street use on these. what about at the track?

(If a mod feels this is better suited for drag racing tech feel free to make the move, I'm assuming a specific tire question may be suited here, but it's all subjective! lol)

At the track 18psi or so.. Clean em off and do a 2nd gear burnout for about 7-8 seconds or so

I had good luck around 18-22psi in them (275/40/17s and 315/35/17s) depending on track conditions. They did require quite a bit of heat to hook. 380/360 to the tires thru an auto was about all they could hold, after I added heads and a bigger cam (this was on a previous car) they wouldn't hook first any longer.

I'm making right at 400rwhp and 410rwtq through a stalled auto LS2 and dead hook on 275/40/17 555Rs.

Hard 7-8 second burnout and 20psi hot.

They've put me to 11.2 @ 122 mph so far

They held good enough to break my axle last fri. They seem to like 16psi and a real good burnout.

I run 315's at 14-15 PSI. Stock convertor, foot braked to about 2000 RPM and dead hook almost all the time after a strong burn out. But then again, I'm not putting much power to them either.

Thanks for the info everyone! Looking forward to getting these on the car, they didn't make it on the truck friday so it looks like it'll be March before I get to try them out at the track. Looking like I'll start at 18-20PSI and work down to 15 if that doesn't get me hooking with a decent 2nd gear burnout.

As for the burnouts... does it need to be a good smoke per track pass, or heat em up good once and clean them up on following runs ( I tend to hotlap for about 3 passes and then let the car cool down for about 30 minutes and pickup again )

All the rave about decent street life is one of the main reasons I went with this tire for now, Thanks for backing up that decision! I have about 2500 miles left of semi DD duty on the car so some rain may be seen, I know to keep it under 50 if I do happen to get caught in rain and under 30 if its a downpour. Won't be too different than my past the wear bars G-Force Sports lol.

Great to see these hooking up some 6speed cars over 400 at the wheels!
I'm hoping to break into the sub 2.0 60ft range with these tires.. best on streets has been 2.2 so far.

I do a healthy burn out every pass that I'm not hot lapping and getting through the staging lanes pretty quick. If I get back in the burnout box pretty quick I clean them off and I'm seeing sub 2.0 60' times.

By healthy burn out I mean, the announcer a Bradenton said he thought I had a tire sponsor. Perhaps its overkill but it's working for me.

Im running 315/35/17" 555r's. 650rwhp and 10.45 in a 71 Nova. At a good track it dead hooks at 14psi air pressure. Normal burnout, just enough for a little smoke.

You must have a great track, no way they'd hook at our local track at that powerlevel.

got em on friday, and while I haven't made it to the track, the hook on the street is amazing, and other than a loose *** the handling isn't nearly as degraded as what I was expecting! .. it will take some getting use to though. Can't wait to try out some 18-20PSI 3K RPM launches at the track... Keep your fingers crossed for me that I dont blow the 10 bolt. Day 1 broke a trans mount on the street *shrug* lol

On the street they require a slight clean up. On the track I heat them good with a 5-7 second burn out in second gear. I leave at 4500 with 452/422 rwhp/tq pulling 1.64 60 fts .

You cant shock these tires, you have to leave at half throttle and dump the clutch but dont hit the gas untill the car shows that its hooked and just fixing to bog. THen you hammer the gas. with your hp, you may hook and hit throttle right away. You will have to feel it out.
