Well I bought a set of pro stars wheels and tires about a year ago with Kumho tires on the front and didn't think anything of it (many highspeed passes). Well, this past weekend I thought a lot of it. I was making a full quater pass (crappy pass) and right as soon as I tapped the brakes after passing through the traps my passenger skinny blows the tread off the tire and f***** up my front bumper, fender, side skirt, broke the mirror, and cracked/scuffed the door up pretty dang good. I trapped 115 and apparently these tires are rated to 118 (?)... So moral of the story, DON'T RUN SHITTY FRONTS! (MT Sportsmans 8 ply on the way)

Damn man that sucks. But it could have been way worse. A good friend of ours crashed his 69 camaro about 10 years ago when he lost one of his cheap front runners going thru the traps!

OP, correct me if I am wrong, but I think he just bought a pair of inexpensive Kumho tires in a "skinny" size not necessarily tires specifically for a VW. I have seen so many similar setups on the street, at the track and in the forums.

... M/T Sportsman 8 ply fronts here too ... !
As further advice ... race tires do have an "expiration date" ... rule of thumb is 4 years after the date of manufacture. Don't get suckered into buying old, hard race tires whether new or used. The last 4 digits of the TIN (Tire Identification Number) indicates the 2 digit month and 2 digit year of the manufacture date. If you buy used, always ask for a photo of the TIN before buying and, if buying new, be sure they are not NOS (New Old Stock).
