Default Toyo R888s are on, WOW.

I picked up a pair of 305/30/19 Toyo R888s and had them mounted up yesterday. Prior to them, I was running a pair of michelin pilot sports in 285/35/19s that were near the end of their lifespan.

At first, they were definitely better. Still lost traction in boost from 4500rpm up in 2nd gear, but after putting about 50 miles on them, I can tell they are getting better and better. They do like heat in them, and I've heard that with a dozen or so heat cycles they become amazing.

My car feels really fast now. Before, I couldn't roll into boost in second gear without blowing the tires completely off. I'm talking from 2500rpm to redline in a split second. Now it hooks at in second, but starts to spin as I hit around 4500-5000rpm, but it's not out of control like before.

I really like the R888's for a nice street tire but they may not get much better for you even with some more break in.

I was running them on my Camaro before I went turbo and they performed incredible for traction and handling but I had similar issues as you once I went turbo. I couldn't get on the car full out or it would blow the tires off from 4500rpms and up even in 3rd gear. I ended up swapping them out for some Mickey ET Streets on the rear and now the car will just give a slight wiggle but no real traction loss.

As stated above, I am still losing traction, but on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being a perfect hook, and 1 being clutch dumps on ice, I went from a 2-3 to a good 6-7 on that scale.

For a fun street car, adding traction definitely helped the fun factor. I'm running on 19s, so my options for sticky tires is limited.

These tires have a 100 tread wear rating so are somewhat soft. I use them on my track car (C5) and they work very well. They also like about 40 lbs hot to stick really well. Not sure how that translates into clutch dumps though.

Are you saying to raise the air pressure to 40psi hot? Seems counter intuitive to what you normally would expect.

Wouldnt a BFG DR or a Nitto 555r give the same effect and cost about the same? I'm just wondering because Ive picked up a buddys c6 rims that had 19"toyo proxes on the rear and with m6 full bolt ons and a med cam I can blow them away from a 2500-3000 punch in first, grab second and the *** walks about a foot out and never hooks up and haven't had the ***** to grab 3rd and put it possibly in a ditch lol. I'm looking to replace the c6's for 17" darkstars on a BFG DR and a 15" for digs or track days. about to put a 150 hit also.

I agree, it is counter intuitive, but that's what Toyo recommends and it works. Mine have been wearing even all across the tread face.. no uneven wear such as the center as yo would expect.

These are NOT drag radials...they are road race tires. Drag radials handle like poo around corners.

Fact is, I like larger wheels on our cars. Some hate it, I like it. So with that, I needed to find a 19" tire that hooks as good as possible. I know it's not a drag tire, but I never luanch the car, so it's not a concern.

With more and more factory cars running 19" and larger wheels, it's only a matter of time till the tire manufacturers put out better alternatives for tires. For now, the Toyo R888s are pretty damn good.

Start looking into what tires are available in 19" at the appropriate heights and you'll see the options are slightly limited. These R888's are what the TT-gallardo's run as well as the high hp GTR's run.

What kind of power are you making if you dont mind me asking? Reason i ask, is because my car im building will be a 90% street car, and im trying to decide on a set of 17" wheels, or just keep my 15x10 rear BS street lites with 17x7 up front. I'm aiming for 650-750rwhp, but i wont be launching the car at the track everyday, as i said, it's going to be a street car

I don't know how much power I'm making, but NA I was making ~450-460 rwhp, then I added 15psi of boost, so it's safe to safe I'm over 650rwhp.

It doesn't help me either that I'm running 3.73 gears, going back to 3.42s would help, but honestly, the car is really fun, and when the tires spin, it's more controllable these days.

Just be warned, they are kinda noisy on the highway if you care about those sorts of things.
