What front tire with Toyo Proxes TQ?
Looks like the Proxes TQ are my best bet for rear tires. But what tires are folks going with in the front to match it pretty well? I thought about doing the RA1s since they are a DOT competition tire as well. I don't want the tires to be too different for braking/handling.
This would be for a 275/315 setup.
Originally, I had thought NT05 and NT05R, but it seems like the TQ are a bit better for the street. NT05 might still be the way to go on the front.
Also, Toyo has an R1R tire that looks crazy, but it's a street tire. Probably the same as NT05 rubber.

I think you are way overthinking this. Tons of people run a street tire on the front with a drag radial in the rear. I ran Firehawk Wide Ovals with my NT-555R's. There were no ill effects. I never felt like the rears were out powering the fronts from a handling/braking perspective. If anything, the softer sidewall in the drag radial negates some of the lateral grip of the tread compound as the tire rolls over quicker.

I'm running the regular NT05's in front with tq 315's in back. When I replace my front tires, I think I might try something that wear a little slower. My nt05's wore out the center very fast at street psi, I had to drop them down to about 20-25 pounds of air.
In terms of braking/handling, as I mentioned in your other thread a drag radial isnt ideal. I felt a big difference going from the 275 nt05s and the 315 toyo's. With the DR's you will feel the rear end tend to wallow around a bit under steering input whereas the nt05's felt much more stiff and responsive. It does seem to track a **** ton better just going straight though. Less tendency to follow cracks in the road compared to the 275's they replaced.
If this is gonna be for street driving you'll get used to it, but the limits are noticeably lower in cornering with the toyo's so if you want to be competitive I'd get a hardcore/autox road race tire for the rear. I'm sure some of that is due to going from 275's on all corners to the 315s and not adjusting the rear swaybar or something, but its good enough for me.
For street driving I'm pretty happy with the nt05 and toyo tq combo. It's not like you're trying to push 1g laterally in a DD situation anyway. Since your car is an A4 I'd bet your car would probably hook a bit better than mine with those tires at the track too.
