Toyo DRs vs 555rs?
#1
Time for new tires. I had the 245 555rs, and they were a heap better than street tires but after the stall I couldn't hook even after a burnout on the street. Looking to step it up tire wise, suspension will come sooner or later.
But I was looking at doing the 275/45/16 Toyo Proxes TQs instead of the 255s. I was worried that with my 2.73 gear the 275s would be too tall but at 275/45 they're actually 25.5 inches tall, and the 255s are dead on 26. Is 275 fine to run on the stock 8.5 inch rim?
I was also looking at the MT 255 radial. Would the Toyos give better life? And which hooks better? Car is a DD so mileage is important but not end all be all. But I'd like to be able to hook when I need to.

I've had both, I still have the Toyo Tq Proxies. They have lasted 14k miles of street driving, racing and the track. I could get another 2-5k out of them easily.
They hook way better. My 555Rs would spin fairly easy, My TQs spin occasionally when I had a SS3600 stall.
Google Toyo Proxes and a website with rock crawler. They have awesome prices.

Thanks for the feedback. Just what I wanted to hear. I was leaning towards these because I can get 275s that aren't too tall for my 2.73, and hook good. Wasn't concerned about life too much but good to know they'll last about as long as my nittos. They lasted around 17-19k with a visit to the track and LOTS of dumb **** on the street.
Do they dead hook on the street for y'all?
And do they need a big burnout or are they like the MTs that only need a small spin? I know my nittos basically needed an epic YouTube worthy burnout just to begin hooking.

Just a heads up....doing a burnout on street tires will not help them get any stickier. It will actually make them worse....and get greasy. Different compounds act differently at different temps....and street tires don't need to be heated to the temp a burnout produces to perform at their best.

Mickeys hook best but I wouldn't consider them a DD DR; more of a tire you can drive safely to the track and back. Not something you'd want to be caught in heavy rain with.
Nittos do well in the rain before they wear down. It seems like TOYO's do also. I plan to try a set of TOYO's this spring.

After trying the toyo tqs last year, I highly recommend them. I had the 255s on stock 16s and I loved them and now that I have a set of zr1s ill be using the 275s. I had them normally around 25-28 psi and they hooked great with the setup in my sig. From a roll I couldn't break them loose and from a dig they would barely spin. Great tires imo.

How do the 315 Toyos look on Fbods? Any modification needed or strictly put on? I know the 315 Nitto size was narrow.

Also added a pair of Proxes T1 Sport's for the front.
