Nitto DR's; Light vs. Heavy Burnout
I posted a thread earlier about a line lock for my LS1 M6. I'm heading to the track Friday, and was asking about whether a line lock would be very helpful with DR's.
Most said yes. But one experienced racer said really heating up the Nittos was a waste of time and rubber, so getting a line lock may not be necessary.
I'm fairly new to strip runs, and have only been to the track once with the Nittos.
Comments?

A quick spin clean and a 3-5 second burn works for me... Don't judge by my 60' in my sig - still trying to figure a good launch RPM. Without linelocks - you could just dump the clutch and give em a quick spin. Should help, but you might need a bit more than that!

I lock my car in second gear and spin them at about 85 mph for a good 5-10 count. I've tried smaller burn outs and they just don't hook good without a good amount of heat. I managed to cut a 1.60 flat on Sunday with them. They seem to be lasting pretty good too. I have about 35-40 passes on them and they are just hitting the wear bars.

Excuse the newb question, but should I not be doing burnouts in 1st gear? Advantage of burning in 2nd?
I tried 20 psi on the Nittos, am I close?
Thanks guys.

I have no M6 experiance but I think many of them do their burouts out of the bottom of 2nd too. Basicly, the faster you spin the tires the quicker you'll put heat in them and it's also easier to control the burnout (you won't be all over the limiter). As far as pressure I run mine at about 16-18psi warm and that seems to work well.

i lowered the tire pressure to 19lbs and did fairly quick burnouts.......daily driven tires with about 4k on them and it hooked as good as i wanted it to(1.8s on 245/16s)
that was an a4 though....

The reason for the 2nd gear burn out is to get the tires hotter I believe, because they are spinning faster then they could in 1st. I run my Nittos at 15psi cold and hook pretty good and cut decent 60fts for only launching at 3,000rpm.

It depends on whether you are hooking up or not. One night I couldn't hook up for **** and I got pissed and did a 15 second burnout before I raced and I hooked up totally, best time I ever ran.
