Default $100/Tire Street Tire Choice?

What would you guys go with for right at $100/tire for an everyday street tire? I want them in a 255/50/16. I have been looking at the Kuhmo 712's on tirerack because they are so cheap at like $96/piece. My work sells BFG T/A's for $104/piece. Just looking for the best performance out of the tires that won't really exceed more than $100/piece. Any suggestions?

i would say the fuzion zri is the best tire in that price range, a step above that would be somewhere around 200 a tire

I just went through a set a nittos (drag radial) and bought a pair of sumitomo HTR 35Z for the back ( I have 17x11, so I needed a 315x35x17) and they were only $95 a tire, so ur size should be a bit cheaper. I have heard good and bad about these tires, but everyone has there opinion, along w/ bad luck.

I'd agree with you I was kinda iffy about them untill I drove on them for a bit.
I really like anything bridgestone makes but was little worried them being the "cheaper brand" they work great.

down line I'd love to step up to a meaner tire but the zris are great for what they are good life traction quiet its a good deal.

Don't buy Kuhmo 712's, pick something else, I have them on one of my cars in a 275/40/17 all the way around and they are horrible about falling the cracks in the road. Buy anything else

Ok, I am now thinking about going the BFG route but wanted to still find a 255/50/16 tire. This is the only one I have found so far. Tell me what yall think of these:

I'd recommend the Fusions as well.

Just bored, so here is a pic of the sumitomos. Some might say those nittos still have life left in them, which they do, but they are a track only tire now, I got caught in the rain and it was one of the scariest rides ever. 35 MPH on the interstate in 6th gear, and TRACTION LESS, it sucked. Alot of it had to do with the road it self, what it was made of, but they still are bad on any road.

Now these are 315x35x17 on 17x11's. Def. not my 1st choice for a tire, but the PRICE was right.

For ~$100 a tire I'd recommend Fuzions as well. They have much the same engineering content as Bridestone Potenzas, nice tread appearance, fat rim protector, are quiet, and nice riding, I consider to be a very nice tire for street use. I have 275 Fuzions on right now and regardless of what some people say, I consider them to be 95% of what my old Potenzas offered, at a fraction of the cost.

Of course they are not autocross tires, but they are progressive, don't squeal alot, and are perfectly fine for freeway ramp charges.

I've also had several vintages of Goodyears, BFG's, and Michelins on these cars. I can't say I've been to the cheaper end with the Sumi / Kums but I for one will be buying another set of Fuzions so long as these go for at least 20-30k miles or so.

I would be really interested to see 60 ft time comparisons and lateral roadholding comparing a "junk" $100 tire to a $300+ tire.

I am still on the fence about which ones to get. I do want to find some still around $100 a tire but I need them to be in the 22/50/16 size. The G-force sports come in that size and are reasonably priced but I am wondering how they compare to the G-force T/A KAs.

I can only say good things about the fuzions. I love mine and will definitely buy another set. Seriously doubt you would be disappointed in them.

Falken ZE 512 tires are great tires for the money IMO...I bought a set for my car 3 months ago for like $74 a piece off of discountires.com and with free shipping. I think they are great. And by far the one of the most inexpensive tires available. Had not problems in the 2,500 miles ive put on them so far. They do really good in the rain too. Will definately be buying another set of these when it is time.
