Post BFG KDW vs. Toyo Proxes 4

I'm about to buy new tires, and I'm in a pickle between these two. I'm looking for a good quality tire that will last a bit on the streets, handle itself well on the streets, and still hook up decently well at the track (by decently well I mean better than my g-Force Sports). I'm hoping to get into the 1.9x 60ft range, but I know that might be impossible.

If anyone has any input on these tires, feel free to post, I could use the advice.

Which lasts longer? Which hooks better? Which LOOKS better? Which handles better?

Also, where have you all bought your BFG KDW tires? I can find the Toyos no problem, but the KDWs don't seem to be carried at any of the local tire shops??

I don't think you're comparing apples to apples but I can say this; I bought a car with new Toyo proxes 4s on it. The tires hook better than anything I have ever owned and they perform and look great. I've never owned the Goodrich KDW tires so I can't compare them.

consider the Falken RT615 -it isn't a dedicated drag radial but it is a sticky R type compound

I have both tires. I prefer the looks of the Proxes but they both look good with the flat sidewalls without all that crap if u know what I mean. The Proxes hook a little better I think but are maybe a little noisier than the KDW's. Online if you look I believe the Proxes 4's are rated higher than the KDW's. A good summer only tire that hooks well is the Nitto 555.

Aren't the R's a drag radial?

I have a set of BF Goodrich G-Force T/A KDW on the car now in P245/50ZR16. They hook very well and still are OK if you get stuck in the rain. I can cut 2.0-2.2 60' times with them. The tread pattern looks similar to many drag radials out there (even though they aren't soft compound). Cornering is excellent. I am running 32 psi all around. I drop the rears a few psi (around 28) for the track. Will be getting a set of Mickey Thompson ET Streets mounted on a spare set of stock 1999 Z28 aluminum 16" wheels. Mickey Thompson is the only way to go for a drag only tire in my opinion unless you are running full slicks such as Hoosier, MH, etc.

I've been considering 555's. I've heard that they don't last very long though. I was thinking the BFG/Toyo tires would offer the same quality if not better but last a bit longer.

Well, contrary to what the poll suggests, I think I'm going to go with the Proxes 4's. I can get a better deal on them than I can the KDW's, and the performance seems comparable. I haven't read/heard anything that would make the KDW tires stand out, other than this particular forum's BFG preference.

If anyone wants to change my mind, nows your last chance!

Tread pattern looks weird on the Toyo Proxes 4, but you seem to be pretty set on getting them so I don't think you'll be swayed by me. Just go with them if you can get a deal. That's why i got my BF Goodrich KDW tires. 4 tires shipped for under $300. I got a god damned steal. Good luck. I prefer the tread pattern on the BFG's by the way (if you didn't notice)

Turns out my deal on the Toyo's fell through. So now its just a few bucks difference at the local tire shop. The only reason I'm siding for the Toyo's is because a few people said that they hooked up better than the BFG KDW's. I've yet to hear anyone talk about the KDW's hooking up well (I don't mean drag radial well, just well for a street radial).

Either way, I'm headed to the tire shop today, and I've yet to make up my mind lol. The poll says go for KDW, but I feel that this board is kind of biased .

I've cut 2.2 60' times all day on BF Goodrich KDW and that was my first time to the track with the M6. I need some more practice launching. Should be possible to get a 2.0 with practice. You'll be happy with either choice. Gotta love new tires. Now you can the old ones

From what I've read on this forum, I don't think KDW's are going to hook any better than your G-Force Sports. If you want to hook, you need a drag radial.

Yeah, I've kind of accepted the fact that I'm not going to hook up well with a street radial lol.

Anyways, I went to the tire shop this morning, and it turns out I was misquoted on the KDW's from the get-go. I was quoted $149/tire and it turns out its going to be $200+/tire. No way I'm paying that, so I ordered a set of Toyo Proxes 4's at $150/tire with some discounts. I'll make sure to post up about how well they grip by the end of the day.
