Default Which DR for mostly street, some track?

My parents just told me they would buy me some DR's for my birthday, and I'm planning on getting a stall soon (SS3600?). What I'm wondering, is what is a good tire to get? I have the stock wheels of still, so that's what size I'll have to get. I am going to be driving like 95% on the street at least, so I would like them to have a decent tread life to them if that's possible. I also don't want to break anything like my rear end, and I have full bolt-ons and a tune, so it feels pretty powerful now (I can't use first anywhere anymore ). What would you recommend for a car like mine who wants to be able stick pretty well on the street, and every once in a while the track, but also get decent tread life out of them and not break anything? I just want to be able to use first again . haha

Find two more stock matching wheels and get BFG's. I wouldn't recommend daily driving on DR's. I've seen quite a few good drivers with wrecked cars due to those.

I look at the weather first . haha. It's funny how everyone tells me I need to run Dr's to take advantage of the converter on the street when I say I am going to go with regular street tires, and then everyone tells me not to run them when I decide that I will . I know a couple guys around here who do it with no problem, soooo.... Please just tire suggestions guys, I've made up my mind . I am thinking Nitto's but I don't really know about the tires. They claim to have a better tread life/rating?

Speedmonster, I've got an LT1 with just minor mods, its pretty slow. In the rain I never once had a problem, even if I got sideways on purpose. At the time I was running ES100's, which were pretty damn good in the rain. Anyways, I bought a pair of BFG drag radials, and one day on the highway I got caught in a rain storm that wasn't even that bad. I had to do 50mph and my car for no reason would suddenly start sliding all over the place. I would stay at a steady speed and just skid all around. It was the most scary moment I ever had in my car. Just a heads up. If you must run a DR all the time, go with the Nitto. I know guys who cut sub 1.8 60fts on them, and they may last up to 10k miles if you don't abuse them on the street.

Yeah, I know how bad they can be :/. In about a year now it's only rained on me once, so it hasn't been too hard to stay out of the rain. I could be even more careful if I knew I was going to have bad tires for it. I was looking at the Nitto site, and what is the actual difference between NT555 and NT555R? Other than the 555 having 3x the tread? They call the 555R a competition drag radial but the other one is just a street tire. They look like the same pattern and everything, but just 3x the tread. I don't know about the compound or anything though.

My car ran 13.25 with a 2.01 60' at 103mph (slower than yours now). I put a stall in and Nittos did not hook for ****. With Mickey Thompson ET Street tires I cut 1.74 60's and never spun. But, I only have them on the car when I drive to the track. If you leave yours on I'd say get the MT drag radials.

it works like this,
Nittos== best tread life, best in rain, worst hooking, (still alot better that normal tire)
BFG== not as good in rain, better hooking that nittos, wear out faster than nittos
MT===best hooking tire othet than a slick, wear out the fastest, not good in rain (but fun)

I must say the MT REALY impressed me how well they do, i have had alot of tires and they are the best

I only drive about 5k miles a year, but I'm also in college and don't have the money to keep replacing tires every year... I'm still not sure what to do... I don't want to spin, but I also don't want to replace the tires each year. I'm not really worried about rain with them though, so that doesn't affect my decision. I'm not going to have to worry about this breaking my rear end am I (a4)? If there is any chance that will happen I will probably just go with the Nittos since they have worse grip. Also, what is the difference between the 555s and 555r's other than the tread life. How much better will the r's really grip?

Thanks for all the help guys

Edit: One more question too. How would the grip on the 555r's compare to Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's? That is the tire I wanted to get before...

I daily drove my car with BFG drag radials for a few months after I got my 4.10s in my car. I never had any problem in the rain. You could feel the sidewall roll a little when you took turns but nothing too bad. I ended up taking them off though because shortly after putting them on my rear started making noise. They hooked great though but I would recommend just getting some regular street tires. I have some BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW tires and they hook pretty good.

Ok, so basically I need to decide DR vs. Street tire, and most likely that means 555Rs vs F1 GS-D3s. How well would the GS-D3s hook on the street with a 3600 converter? All i need is for it to hook pretty well on the street. It just seems like I'll need DRs with the converter... I already can't get enough traction to keep the tires from spinning anywhere in 1st, and I have the stock Eagle F1 GS's now, with the stock converter still.

Not sure about the D3's, I have Supercar F1's and they hook great, D3s would be better I would think. They are 315s though, so I can't really say how well the 275s will do. Get your wheels widened 2" and get 315 D3's

I've had my eagle f1 d3's on for 25000 miles. They hooked great with my old setup, all bolt ons. I cut a best of 1.8 60s with 285s all around. Installing some more power so I'll definately have dr's for the track and some new 315 gsd3s for the street. Hope this helps and good luck with the decision.

My car is not a DD I run BFG DR's and love them for what my car is now. I run 275's and have good street manners and hook good at the track.

I havent had a single problem hooking at the track with the Nitto DR's. I will admit that they do require a little longer of a burnout the the MT's and BFG's. But I used to cut 1.7's 1.8's all day long.
