Default why won't my tires hold air?

I just put my chrome 10 spokes back on the car and put 40 psi in each tire. 3 days later i have 8 psi pretty much all around. I have to pump them up every few days. So why am I losing tire pressure? I have Falken 275's w/1000 miles wrapped on the wheels.

Tire bead not sealing?

Bad valve stems?

Bad tires?

I have had a similar isssue with factory wheels since 1999. I have replaced tires and valve stems several times with no improvement.

You can replace stems and reseal them until the cows come home and it likely not improve the situation.l

I suspect the wheels are leaking air.

is the chrome peeling inside? that's what is happening to my wheel, where the tire seals, the chrome is peeling away, so air is leaking out and i have to fill it up every few days... i took it to Les Schwab and they put some kind of temporary sealer on it that helps quite a bit and i don't have to fill it up quite as often... but like i said, it's temporary so i'm looking for new wheels for my car

Mine have leaked since the day I drove my car off the dealer lot as a new car in 1999. All 4 wheels leak air. I re-fill them twice per month.

I've had several tire stores check out the situation and no one has been able to cure it. Basically, these are defective wheels that GM should replace.

You probably have a similar issue.

Take the wheels off. then spray some soapy water all over the wheels and tires. My guess is a leak around the bead. If so, try some bead sealer.

Same here. I have 2 that need it every couple weeks. The other 2 monthly. If you dont keep up with it your tires pay the price. I hope my new TTM's dont do it.

thx for all the replies...they're practically brand new tires and valve stems. i doubt the rims are bent but you never know. i'm willing to bet its the chrome around the bead. these are my winter rims (hard to believe since they are chrome 10 spokes) but soon enough i'll have my 17x11 ZR1's back on so its not like i'm stuck with them.

This can be fixed easily though. Dismount the tires and clean around the inside lip of the wheel with a wire brush. Be careful so that the chrome doesn't peel off on the outside of the wheel. Then liberally apply bead sealer around the bead of the tire and inside lip of the wheel. Do not use lube when remounting the tires! If this is your problem, it should stop the majority, if not all of the leaking.

FORD had a similar problem with the aluminum wheels on their Mustangs a few years ago. The aluminum was so porous that it LEAKED air. FORD did a ervice recall on them and they dismounted the tires and sprayed a sealer on the rims and remounted the tires.
