Default WTF: 275 MT vs. M&H 325 width

Why is there SOOO much difference bteween the advertised tread width between these two drag radials? The tread width is nearly the same ... 10.3" vs. 10.0".

That might be a missprint or something. I've had the 325's, and I promise, the contact area is about 3 inches wider than a 275!
LoL, Just noticed you were talking about M&H 325's, not MT 325's. Yeh, the M&H's are small as f*ck!

That's like a 28x11 vs a 26xwhatever... tires are not very similar.

I think what he is getting at is the listed tread size. I have often wondered that also.

Technically if it were true MM measurements it should be:

275mm=10.8267" or American units would round it to 11"
325mm=12.7952" or American units would round it to 13"

I really don't understand how there is so much of a difference in tire brands. Units of measurement are just that. No particular tire company can change that. Kinda like how a 275 Nitto compares to a 275 M/T.

you would think a 275 would be the same friggin width no matter what brand it was.

Well, since the 295/45R17 MT's are still on national backorder, I was looking at putting a M&H Racemaster tire on the car in their 315 width. The M&H 315 looks like it would fit about the same as the MT DR in a 275/4R/17 width does ... on my 9.5" speedlines ... safely.

Since they're both about the same tread width though the advertised size is waaaay off ... anybody see a reason not to buy these and put them on the car.?

hmm..

ET Street says:
275/50R15 which is equivalent to 26 X 11.50R15 with a sidewall width of 11.3 and a treadwidth of 10.5

M&H says:
325/50R15 is equivalent to 10.5/28.0R15 with sidewall width of 12.3 and treadwidth of 10.3

But how does M&H rate their 50 series tire as 28''? And how does everything come up so different? M/Ts are 11.5 wide, but have a sidewall width of 11.3, but M&H are 12.3 and are 10.5'' wide??

the 325/50 are nearly 28" tall if not taller. dont put those on unless you are geared for it. they will kill your et.

But in my OP, I was comparing a MT DR in a 275/40R/17 width, which is only 10.0" tread width.
Too bad tire manufacturers aren't held to a national standard for sizes.
