Default NITTO 555R Questions....

Just had a couple questions for you guys with NITTO experience...

1. Should I run em with the stock rear end? ... I don't launch @ 5k RPM.... I'm more of a 1.5k -2k RPM launch kind of guy.

2. Can you just do the back tires since my crappy Ventus tires are practically brand new... should I keep those up front and get NITTOS on the rear?

3. What is the speed rating? I keep getting different info. Some sites list 149mph and some list 168mph... what's the deal???

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Just make sure they are properly inflated before doing any top speed runs....mine have seen 175mph on a dyno before. Plus, how fast do you need to go anyway???

458mph....

but i live my life a quarter-mile a time....

thanks for the responses... what is the basic difference between the different Nitto models?

i don't expect over 10k miles of durability... now i have read reports of guys running 30k miles on them... seems a little far fetched for drag radials, but it could happen i suppose.

I have 15k on mine and lots of tread left

555=street tire....555R=drag radial

Run the R's out back and whatever up front. I do however like the regular 555's for front. Good grip

Im looking at nittos and cant decide on 555 or 555r. I need a tire thats good for DD(wont slide off the road when it rains) and give me a decent launch at the track. Would the 555's fit the bill? what is the life on those tires?

I havent had any problem with the 555r's in the rain. They grip better than my sumitomo's did on the wet. The 555r drag radial is the ultimate DD tire for higher hp cars

I got over 10k miles on mine with several track and street passes, lots of burnots. Good daily driven DR, minus the noise of them picking up trash from the street, but it's a DR. Plain and simple, if you want a daily driven street/stirp tire that will last, then go with the 555R, if you want a more of a track DR go with the BFG.

this is my second car that i have run nitto DRs on! wont run any other DR on the street, now the track is different! but for a dependable, high mileage, somewhat sticky DR the nitto is the way to go! ive had mine on for a while and put at least 20k miles on em and still have tread to go! i have ran the stock rear on them as well and havent had any issues with it! they seem to hold the new cam pretty good as well.

Agrred... MT ET's street it's what I run, but sometimes my converter doesn't get along with the MT's. lol

What I meant was if you want a street/strip tire that will mostly see the track but will still be driven on the street then the BFG, no doubt. MT's streets are more a track tire not too street friendly and probaly woundn't run in the rain. 555r's I'd even use when almost bald in the rain.

Were semi-local to each other. lol I live south of you.

Depends on what kind of tires you want, if you'r looking for Nittos or BFG's try America tire co/ Discount tires that's where I got my set of Nitto's. But you can probaly shop around online. What size and type are you looking for?

So how much better/different are the 555r's than the 555's? Nittos site makes the 555 look like the better street rod tire than the 555r

I got mine at discount, they have around 8k on them and still have decent tread left

the speed rating only matters if you run above the rated speed for a long period of time, Ive taken mine to 160+mph

I've been running Nittos for about 6 years in Portland. On wet pavement the drag radials stick better than alot of all season tires I've had. F1's, kumhos, GSC's. KDWS had the best wet traction of them all.

The problem for the drag radials is not wet pavement (as long as they have some tread) the problem is standing water. I am Extremely careful when driving in the rain. Any bend in the road I will slow down for, if your careful they are ok DD in the rain. If you drive hard in the rain then these are not for you.

If I lived in Arizona or something it would be a no brainer.

Don't get 4 555r's. The R's are DR's= drag radials, and the 555's are regular street tires. No point in getting DR's in the fonrt of a rear wheel drive car. Get 555's for the front and 555r's for the rear. Check around in Fresno, lot's of places there to get good deals. Should be a couple bucks less for the 555's, price seems alright though... But Summit's out of stock in both types.

Ya Ill definetly have to check around.
So in reference to my previous question, are the 555's a street strip or just street? Im assuming the 555r's are a drag radial that can be legally street driven, and honestly I dont think I need that. If the 555's hook well then I think Ill just end up with them. I mean look at my sig Im not making really huge numbers, and Im not going to go to the track alot. If the 555's will hook well enough for the occasional light-to-light jaunt then they are good enough for me.
Or am I just all jacked up here?

Sort of. lol

555's are a regular street tire, not a street strip, just a plain street tire. Every company I'm sure is going to hype that they're performance tire's, but they're just regular street tires.
555R's is a drag radial, street-strip tire, this is the a drag radial that is really street friendly and last a good amount of miles. DR's have a lower tire life rating than regualr tires since they have a softer compound, but out of all DR's I think they live the most.
You'll definitley get wheel spin with that much power using 555's in the rear, shtt I'd light up my 555'Rs with just a catback and lid.lol
You best bet would be to get 555's for the front and 555R's for the rear. The rears will obvioulsy wear out faster than the front's. I got 10k miles out my 555R's with many street and strip burnouts and plenty of street and track passes.
