the bulges on the side are called impact breaks, they come from improper demounting or hitting a pothole or curb with the sidewall

the bulges coming out of the tread are separations which come from everything from an improper flat repair to manufacturing defects to age

The tires on my old monte carlo did that. But then again they were mounted in 1977 and still had alot of tread left on them. Who knew..

Mine isn't nearly as bad but this happened the other day. Nice way to tear up a $225 tire that only had about 9,000 miles. Hit a pot hole the size of China....can't believe it didn't rip the wheel off. Thank god it wasn't on the TA!

I had a 36 inch Gumbo Monster Mudder almost take the side of my head off once. All I did was drive over railroad tracks. When I got across I kept feeling something like someone was hitting my tire with a ball bat but I was sitting still. I get out to see whats up, narrowed it down to the drivers wheel area and just when I got under it the damn thing let go. Talk about chittin' yourself. People were coming out of their houses thinking a gun went off. Still can't hear that good in my right ear. Thats the ear I listen to my wife with!

I have seen a few tires like that before but not as bad and only on the sidewalls. I was told it was from hitting large pot holes and bumps causing the belts to separate. It puckers your *** when you pull a wheel and tire off a car and see one of those staring you back in the face.

Yep.... I had one with a knot in it like that on my old Bonneville. I was driving to a Cracker Barrel for lunch and notice the car felt like I was diving over a bunch of rocks or something. I pulled over, walk around to the passenger side on the front tire had a knot sticking out of it like that. Fortunately, I wasn't driving fast and I took it and had the tire replaced immediately.

Bad news.... I had just driven the car on the interstate earlier that day.

must have been watching over me.
