Connecting ipod to 2000 Firebird
If that's the case, then check out the iPod mod links above ^. Although if you and your friends only have iPods, then I would use a hardwired interface like iPod2Car or a GM9-AUX adapter. MUCH better quality and you can ff/rwd/skip tracks. Many aftermarket headunits also have support for iPod adapters too.

It plugs into the CD changer port on the back of the factory radio. You loose the use of the factory CD changer but retain steering wheel control since it acts like the factory CD changer. I tried several iPods with good results (iPod classic 80gig & nano). I used the dice electronics http://diceelectronics.com/ mounting accessory and looked through my partsbin and found a rubber boot that fit in my cigarette lighter. I mounted the boot to the back of the dice unit, drilled a hole under the cig lighter for the iPod cord and had a removeable mount for the iPod classic right in front of the cig lighter! The USA Spec unit allowed me to either operate the iPod from the car stereo/steering wheel or use the iPod controls. This has the advantage of not locking the iPod screen so I could play music throug the car stereo while playing a photo slideshow on the iPod.....even while driving!
I have since decided to get an aftermarked head unit so the USA Spec iPod adaptor is for sale if anyone is interested....
