Default Switched to fixed antenna, little to no reception

my 95 formula had a motorized antenna (up and down) when I got it, and I replaced it with a fixed antenna from a 94 Firebird. It has little to no reception on the channels that used to come in clear as day. Why is this and how can I fix it?

Not being a smartass, but did you plug the antenna cable back in?

figured you did, I'd be lost then. I switched from power to fixed antenna on my car and it works fine. Only thing I could think of is bad connection on the antenna wire, or maybe try a different fixed antenna heh.

I took out my broken antenna and got better radio reception without it.
So... maybe it's just a fluke?

sorry to bring back an old thread, but has anybody figured out a solution to this? i have the exact same story. i even wired in an FM booster and it seemed to do the trick at first, but then i moved the car and it went to basically nothing again. could it be the quality of the antenna? its just a cheapo NAPA replacement.
