Default Whats the best subwoofer for the money?

I have already ordered the Aplines($130 w/ Tweeters) for the doors and the Rockford Fosgates($49 each) for the sail panels. Thank to all the guys on this site. Now I need to find out which Sub and Amp would be the best for the back. Im thinking either subthumps' stealth box w/Alpine 10" for the money. Is there a better sub am amp combo out there that I can get without killing my wallet.

For a cheap sub I would recommend a JL 10W04 they retail $99. Great overal sound with really deep bass. As far as an amp goes you can find a good Alpine with 90 to about 150 watts which can usually be found for about $125. I would recommend going to Sound Advice stores in the Miami area they carry both and you should get a good price on both.

For that money($100), go with a 10" Kicker comp VR or an IDQ if are tight on space. You will love eather one of them.

I used to have a JL in my Truck. The center cone fell off and it started having problems. I have always heard that they start out great and get worse as the years go by. Has anyone heard an Alpine 10. I can get a really good price on one.

I used to be in the audio industry...but that was a few years ago. I haven't even followed it lately. But the two subs I was going to give props to have already been mentioned... for the money.. Kickers hit hard and drop well.. JL Audio..their name speaks for itself!

I've never heard that about JL, but any sub will deteriorate over time.. there's no way around it. Of course, like I said, I've been out of the industry for a few years... like since 97 or so I quit keeping up with it.

Boy that is an open ended opinionated question. But I would have to agree, Kicker, JL are good for their price.

I am a HUGE fan of Rockford Fosgate subwoofers. I had 2 15's. They lasted through 4 different installs in 5 years. I sold them last spring to a friend. They still sound incredible, even though they are over 6 years old!!!

Fosgate has always made pretty good stuff.. until they started their less expensive line of products...

I'm not sure what RF calls their product lines now.. but I remember when their Punch series of products was totally kick *** for the money..outstanding in fact!

I bought a Punch 45 two channel amp back in 1990.. my brother still has it rolling in his spare truck that he uses for camping and what not. That amp, which was rated at stable at 2ohms..ran a 1ohm stereo load without even blinking an eye for me!

I'd pick up a used stealth box for like $60-$75 and load it with a Alpine Type-S. Power it with a small Lanzar Vibe series () and you'll have a mean set-up for cheap. Don't laugh. The Vibe 1200D has been said to actually output 1200WRMSx1.....for $200?!!?!?!?

Thanks for all of the help. I guess everybody likes the JL's, but I managed to get a brand new Alpine SWR-12 for 80 bucks. I wanted to get the Stealth box, but it won't fit the 12. I also dont want to take up the whole trunk with one of the bigger boxes that some of the stereo places sell. So I decided that I am just going to build my own box that will only take up half of the trunk. I did it before for one of my other cars, Turned out great. Just have to take your time. It would help if anyone already has the measurements for a box that they built for thier Bird.

Be sure to show some pics when you finish that box...Im very interested in seeing it. Im currently using a sub box that takes up my whole trunk (its winter so no need to take out the ttops), but come summer I will be looking for a way to stow away the ttops in the trunk without losing the 12" sub.

Well I just finished building the box and installing the Speaker. WOW. that Alpine SWR-1241D exceeded all of my expectations. I have to turn the gain almost all of the way down so I can hear myself think. I buought all of the material for around 50 bucks. cut it, put it together, and sealed it and it is awesome. I made the box so that it sits down in the lower half of the trunk, and I am going to put the grill down so nothing falls on it. I ended up with .95 cubic feet of space. The sub reccomends .7-1.0 or .85 as the best. It took me about 3 hours to build the box. I will post some pics tomorrow, and then again after I carpet it. If anyone wants the mearurements pm me. The bottom of the box is aperfect rectangle. the only fancy cutting you have to do is on the top so that it is flush. The amp, sub and box cost me $ 280 all together. I got the equipmentfrom www.ikesound.com.
