JL subs and amp

JL subs and amp if i were to get 2 jl audio 12w3v2's and a jl audio 500/1 amp, would i need to get the subs in 2, 4, or 6 ohm level? ive heard its good to get them in the 4 ohm level because the jl amp is extremely versatile and can handle it just fine. what do you guys think?

if u get the 2 ohms put the voice coils in series that gives u 4 ohms per woofer then parllel both together for 2ohms wich that amp should be stable at and you should get quite THUMP.
I would get the dual 4 ohm. Because the JL amps use a regulated power supply any ohm load between 1.5 and 4 ohms will give you around 500 watts. I recommend the dual 4 because if you wire the voicecoils in series you get 8 ohms and then wire the subs in parrallel bring it back down to 4 ohms. In my experience with JL amps you will get the same level output at 2 or 4 ohms but at 4 ohms that amp will run cooler and have less distortion giving you a cleaner sound.

I don't know how relevan this is, but I have been asked to seperate a package deal I have posted. Since you are looking for a decent sub, would you consider the pair of 15" Eclipse subs I have in a custom enclosure? They are aluminum subs, so there will be no worries about the cone falling apart. Where are you located? You are welcome to stop by and demo them.

Thank you all for your input; I will be going with the dual 4 ohms. Paul, I thank you for your offer, but im in sc and ive found a really good deal on these JLs. Ill just have to pass this one up. Thanks a lot. -evan

Maddboost is correct.
The amp will give the same power at 2 and 4ohm sorun it 4ohm to keep the amp cooler and keep the damping factor up (control).
I run this amp on 2 Aluminum 12' Eclipse subs in my truck and it sounds great. If you can get a deal on the Eclipses they are a MUCH better sub IMO.

I have the JL Stealth box, JL 10w3v2 sub, and JL250/1 amp. I still have the stock head unit and the other stock speakers and the sound system sounds absolutely great. JL make some kick *** equipment. I am very happy with this set-up.
